Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp. First hiking day
On the first day of the hike, you'll begin your journey at Machame Gate, situated at an elevation of 5,380 feet. The day's destination is Machame Camp, which lies at an altitude of 9,350 feet. The total distance to be covered is approximately 11 kilometers, and it's estimated to take around 5 to 7 hours of hiking through the lush and dense rainforest. This part of the mountain is characterized by a rich variety of flora and fauna, providing a picturesque setting for the start of your adventure.

Day 2: Depart from Machame Camp to Shira 2 Camp.
Leaving behind the rainforest, you'll ascend to an elevation of 12,500 feet as you make your way to Shira 2 Camp. The distance to be covered on this day is around 5 kilometers, and it's expected to take approximately 4 to 6 hours of hiking. The landscape begins to transition into heath and open moorlands as you traverse a rocky ridge. The changing scenery offers beautiful panoramic views of the surroundings and serves as a preview of the diverse habitats to come.

Day 3: Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp.
On the third day, you'll journey from an altitude of 12,500 feet to 15,190 feet as you head towards Lava Tower. Covering a distance of about 7 kilometers, this part of the hike is estimated to take around 4 to 5 hours. The hike will take you through the alpine desert, where vegetation becomes sparser. From Lava Tower, you'll descend to an elevation of 13,044 feet to reach Barranco Camp, which covers a distance of approximately 3 kilometers and takes around 2 to 3 hours. This day is crucial for acclimatization as you gain significant altitude and then descend to sleep at a lower level.

Day 4: Descend from Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp.

Descending into a ravine and then ascending the Barranco Wall, you'll cover a distance of 5 kilometers on this day. The hike is expected to take around 4 to 5 hours, and you'll reach an elevation of 13,106 feet at Karanga Camp. The habitat will remain in the alpine desert, and the landscape offers unique geological features and stunning vistas. This day is important for further acclimatization in preparation for the upcoming summit attempt.

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Heading to Barafu Hut.
The trail will cover about 4 kilometers and take approximately 4 to 5 hours. The campsite sits at an altitude of 15,331 feet and is located along the Mweka Trail, marking the completion of the Southern Circuit. Here, you'll rest and prepare for the challenging summit push that lies ahead.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp.
This is the summit day and one of the most demanding parts of the hike. Starting early, you'll ascend from Barafu Camp at 15,331 feet to reach the highest point in Africa, Uhuru Peak, standing at an impressive 19,341 feet. The distance covered to the summit is approximately 5 kilometers and is likely to take 7 to 8 hours. The high-altitude Arctic habitat at the summit offers breathtaking views and a sense of unparalleled achievement. Afterward, you'll begin your descent to Mweka Camp, situated at an elevation of 10,065 feet. This part of the trail covers about 12 kilometers and takes around 4 to 6 hours. The terrain changes from rocky and cold to the familiar rainforest as you make your way down.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate. Final hiking day
On the final day of the hike, you'll descend from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate. Covering a distance of 10 kilometers, the hike is expected to take around 3 to 4 hours. At an altitude of 5,380 feet, you'll collect your summit certificates, marking the successful completion of your Kilimanjaro journey. From Mweka Gate, you'll continue to Mweka Village and then be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi, where you can celebrate and reflect on your incredible accomplishment.
