START – 8,764FT / 2671M After a hearty breakfast, you start your journey to the second caves, which are located at an elevation of 11,812ft / 3600m. The trail is well-marked, and you can see the magnificent views of the Eastern Icefields as you ascend. You will reach the Second Cave, which is a stunning natural feature, and you can take a break to admire the beauty of the place. After taking some time to appreciate the Second Cave, you will have lunch and continue your journey to the Kikelewa Caves Campsite. The campsite is situated in a sheltered valley and is surrounded by lush vegetation. The caves offer a unique experience, and you can spend the evening exploring them and learning about their history.

Today, you will start your ascent to thekikelewa camp, which is located at an elevation of 14,158ft / 4315m. The trail is steep, but the views are breathtaking. You will pass by the Kibo crater and the beautiful glaciers that cover the mountain. The trail is well-marked, and you will have plenty of opportunities to take photos and admire the stunning scenery. Once you reach the Mawenzi Tarn Hut, you will have time to rest and acclimatize before heading out on another acclimatization walk in the afternoon. The hut offers basic amenities such as dining and sleeping areas, but it is a great place to rest and enjoy the stunning views of the mountain.

START – 14,158FT / 4315M Today is a day for rest and acclimatization. Your guide will take you on a gentle walk around the Mawenzi region, which will help you to acclimate to the high altitude. The walk usually takes around 3-4 hours and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers. You will have plenty of time to take photos, admire the scenery, and rest before returning to the Mawenzi Tarn Hut. The hut is a great place to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and it offers a great opportunity to reflect on your journey so far.

As the sun sets and darkness descends, you begin your ascent of Uhuru Peak, the highest point on the African continent and a symbol of accomplishment for many climbers. With the early start and nighttime ascent, the scree sections are firmer, making the climb to Gilman's Point smoother. As you continue on to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, you are overcome with emotion and a sense of accomplishment.
