Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

After breakfast at your hotel in moshi, you'll embark on a two-hour drive to Londorossi Park Gate (2100m). Along the way, you'll stop in a nearby village to pick up a packed lunch and any additional supplies you may need. The final stretch to the gate will be on a bumpy forest track, requiring a 4WD vehicle. At the gate, you'll register with the Tanzania National Parks Authority and meet your guides and porters. Then, you'll begin your 3-hour hike through the lush montane forest, where you might spot playful Colobus monkeys. In the late afternoon, you'll reach Mti Mkubwa Camp (2750m), also known as "Big Tree" Camp, where your tents will be set up and a delicious dinner will be prepared for you. Prepare for a chilly night as temperatures can drop below freezing.

It's normal to start feeling the effects of altitude at this point, such as headaches and shortness of breath. After lunch, you'll descend to Barranco Camp (3950m) for about 2 hours. From the top of the wall, you'll be rewarded with a stunning view of Heim Glacier and a majestic panorama above the clouds. The trail will then lead you through the picturesque Karanga Valley, offering an ideal day for acclimatization. After approximately 4-5 hours of hiking, you'll reach Karanga Camp (3950m). Perched on a rocky ridge, the campsite is exposed to wind and rocks, so it's essential to familiarize yourself with the surroundings before dark. An early dinner will be served, allowing you ample rest before the summit attempt later in the night. Your guide will provide detailed instructions for summit night preparations, and it's advised to retire early, around 19:00.

Around midnight, you'll be awakened with tea and biscuits to begin your summit attempt. The route will take you northwest, ascending over stone scree. This part of the climb is mentally and physically challenging, but in approximately 6 hours, you'll reach Stella Point (5685m) on the crater rim. As the sun rises, you'll continue for about 2 more hours on a snow-covered trail to reach Uhuru Peak (5895m), the highest point in Africa. Take the time to capture photographs and enjoy tea before descending to Barafu Camp, which takes about 3 hours. After a hot lunch, you'll continue your descent to Mweka Camp (3100m) through scree, rocks, and the moorland. The upper rainforest awaits you at Mweka Camp, where you'll enjoy dinner, wash up, and rest.

Those who reached Stella Point receive green certificates, while those who made it to Uhuru Peak receive gold certificates.
