Day 1: Nairobi to Maasai Mara – Festive Scenic Journey

Your guide will collect you from Nairobi early in the morning. Christmas-season traffic may affect travel time, so a timely departure is important. After a scenic Rift Valley stop, meal break and transfer across Maasai countryside, you will arrive for lodge check-in and lunch. An afternoon game drive may reveal lions, elephants, giraffes and zebras before you return for dinner and any festive welcome arranged by the property.

After breakfast, you will depart with a picnic lunch for a complete wildlife day. Possible attractions include lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes and grazing herds. The guide will follow wildlife movement rather than a fixed route. You will return to the lodge for a Christmas meal or seasonal programme when provided.

2. Are Christmas meals included?

This depends on the selected accommodation and confirmed meal plan. Some lodges include a Christmas meal, while others charge a compulsory festive supplement. The quotation should clearly state what is included. Guests should not assume every property offers the same menu or entertainment.

3. Will all lodges have decorations and entertainment?

Many properties provide decorations and seasonal hospitality, but programmes vary. One lodge may offer music and a large dinner, while another may provide a quiet meal and simple decorations. Specific entertainment should be confirmed in writing. Wildlife and nature remain the main focus.

4. Are Christmas prices higher?

Many properties apply peak-season or festive supplements. Family rooms, private vehicles and flights may also be in greater demand. The final price depends on exact dates, group size, accommodation and included activities. Early booking improves the available choices.

5. Can children and grandparents travel together?

7. Is December suitable for wildlife viewing?

Resident wildlife is present throughout the year. Rain may affect roads, vegetation and animal distribution but can also create green scenery and dramatic skies. Sightings remain natural and cannot be guaranteed. Light rain protection should be packed.

8. Is Mount Kilimanjaro guaranteed during Christmas?

No. Weather and cloud cover can hide the mountain completely. Early mornings may improve visibility, but there is no guarantee. Amboseli remains rewarding because of its elephants and wetlands.

9. Can a beach extension be added?

Yes. Diani, Mombasa, Watamu or Zanzibar can be included after the safari. Christmas beach properties also fill quickly, so flights and rooms should be reserved early. The best connection depends on the international flight plan.

10. What happens if festive traffic causes delays?

The guide will use early departures and allow reasonable travel time, but holiday traffic can still create delays. Guests should avoid booking flights too close to the expected Nairobi arrival. Travel insurance covering delays and missed connections is recommended.
