Day 1: Nairobi to Maasai Mara – The Family Adventure Begins

Nairobi to Maasai Mara – The Family Adventure Begins

Through the Great Rift Valley
Our representative will collect your family from JKIA or a Nairobi hotel between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. You will travel 270–300 km through the Great Rift Valley and Narok to your Maasai Mara accommodation. The journey usually takes 5½–6½ hours, excluding extended stops. Our guide will arrange practical comfort breaks and a viewpoint stop when traffic, weather and family needs permit.

First Mara Game Drive
After lunch, check-in and time to settle into your premium family room or tent, you will depart at around 3:30 p.m. for an introductory game drive. Children and adults can search for zebras, giraffes, elephants, antelopes and predators when naturally encountered. Our guide will introduce the Mara ecosystem in an engaging, age-appropriate way without disturbing wildlife. Return near sunset for dinner, relaxation and a briefing about the following day.

Day 2: Maasai Mara – Full-Day Family Wildlife Safari

Maasai Mara – Full-Day Family Wildlife Safari

Discovering the Mara Plains
Breakfast will be served at approximately 6:00 a.m., followed by departure between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. Our guide will explore grasslands, seasonal streams and acacia-dotted plains according to wildlife movement and road conditions. Possible encounters include elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, lions, cheetahs, hyenas and many bird species, although no particular sighting can be guaranteed.

Lunch in the Reserve
A picnic lunch will be enjoyed at an authorized site between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Parents should supervise younger children and ensure that food remains within the designated area. If your lodge is conveniently located, a lodge lunch and rest period may be arranged instead.

Learning through Wildlife
The afternoon game drive continues until approximately 5:30–6:00 p.m. Our guide can help children maintain a wildlife checklist, recognize animal tracks and understand simple conservation relationships. Return to camp for dinner and a comfortable family evening.

Day 3: Maasai Mara – A Second Day of Family Exploration

Maasai Mara – A Second Day of Family Exploration

A Flexible Start
Your second complete Maasai Mara day begins after breakfast at approximately 6:30 a.m. Having another full day provides flexibility to explore a different part of the reserve or revisit a productive wildlife area. Families preferring a gentler pace may request morning and afternoon drives with a lodge break, depending on accommodation location and park-entry arrangements.

Wildlife beyond the Big Cats
Our guide will encourage the family to observe animal behaviour rather than concentrating only on famous predators. Elephants caring for calves, giraffes feeding, antelopes watching for danger and birds building nests can be equally fascinating. Lunch will be served at an approved picnic location between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.

Final Mara Evening
The afternoon provides another opportunity to enjoy the Mara’s landscapes and wildlife. Seasonal migration herds may enter the ecosystem during certain months, but their location and river crossings cannot be guaranteed. Return at approximately 5:30–6:00 p.m. for dinner and your final Maasai Mara overnight.

Maasai Mara to Lake Nakuru – A Scenic Family Road Journey

From Savannah to the Rift Valley
After breakfast, your family will check out at approximately 7:30 a.m. and begin the 235–280 km journey to the Lake Nakuru area. Driving takes 5–6½ hours, depending on the departure gate, road conditions, weather and traffic. Our guide will schedule comfort stops and explain how the scenery changes from open savannah to farmland, highlands and busy Rift Valley settlements.

A Restful Nakuru Afternoon
Lunch will be arranged during the journey or after arrival, depending on progress. You will check into your premium accommodation during the afternoon and have time to rest after the long transfer. Children may use lodge facilities only under responsible adult supervision. If daylight, accommodation location and park access permit, a short introductory drive may be considered. Otherwise, the family can relax before dinner and prepare for the following morning’s Lake Nakuru game drive.

Day 5: Lake Nakuru Wildlife and Lake Naivasha Family Retreat

Lake Nakuru Wildlife and Lake Naivasha Family Retreat

Rhinos and Lakeshore Habitats
Following an early breakfast, you will enter Lake Nakuru National Park between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. The three- to four-hour game drive explores acacia woodland, grassland, rocky viewpoints and accessible lakeshore areas. Your family may encounter white or black rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, baboons, pelicans and other birds. Flamingo numbers change according to water and feeding conditions.

Relaxing beside Lake Naivasha
After the game drive, continue 70–100 km to your Lake Naivasha accommodation, a journey of 1½–2 hours depending on the selected property. Lunch and check-in are followed by a relaxed afternoon. An optional family boat excursion may be arranged with an approved operator, subject to weather, water conditions and minimum-age policies. Life jackets are compulsory. Parents must supervise children around the lake, gardens and unfenced lodge areas because hippos and other wildlife may be present. Dinner is served at the lodge.

Lake Naivasha to Amboseli – Into Elephant Country

The Southern Transfer
Enjoy breakfast from approximately 6:30 a.m. before checking out and departing between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m. The journey to the Amboseli area covers 310–360 km and normally takes 6–7½ hours, excluding lunch, comfort stops and heavy traffic around Nairobi. Our guide will plan sensible breaks so children can stretch, use washrooms and remain comfortable during this longer road journey.

First Amboseli Experience
You will arrive at your premium Amboseli lodge or camp during the afternoon. After check-in and a short rest, the family may depart at around 4:00 p.m. for a game drive if daylight and park access allow. Amboseli’s wetlands and plains support elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes and abundant birdlife. Mount Kilimanjaro may appear when cloud conditions permit. Return near sunset for dinner and a restful final safari night.

Day 7: Amboseli Morning Safari and Return to Nairobi

Amboseli Morning Safari and Return to Nairobi

Elephants beneath Kilimanjaro
Wake at approximately 5:30 a.m. for tea, coffee or a light snack before leaving on an early game drive. The cooler morning hours are suitable for exploring Amboseli’s plains, wetlands and acacia areas. Our guide will search responsibly for elephant families, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, antelopes, predators and waterbirds while explaining how animals depend on the park’s water sources.

Completing the Family Journey
Return to the lodge for breakfast and check out between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. You will then travel 215–240 km to Nairobi via Emali. The drive usually takes 4–5 hours, excluding lunch and city traffic. Comfort stops will be provided when required. Drop-off is available at JKIA, Wilson Airport or a Nairobi hotel. Families using an international flight should select a late-evening departure or reserve an additional Nairobi night to avoid a stressful connection.

RELATED FAQS ABOUT 7 Days Premium Family Safari from Nairobi

    1. What ages are suitable for this family safari?

The safari can be arranged for children, teenagers and adults, but suitability depends on each child’s ability to manage long road transfers and several hours inside a safari vehicle. Parents should provide the children’s exact ages before booking. This allows us to recommend suitable rooms, game-drive arrangements, meal plans and optional activities.

    2. Are child seats available in the safari vehicle?

Child seats or booster seats can be requested before confirmation, subject to availability and compatibility with the assigned vehicle. Parents should provide each child’s age, height and weight so an appropriate option can be discussed. Do not assume that a standard child seat is automatically included.

    3. Will our family have a private vehicle?

A private safari vehicle can be included in your confirmed package and is strongly recommended for families. It provides greater flexibility for comfort stops, seating arrangements and shorter game drives when children become tired. Your quotation will clearly state whether transportation is private or shared.

    4. Are family rooms or interconnected rooms available?

Many premium lodges offer family tents, suites, cottages or interconnected rooms, but availability and maximum occupancy differ between properties. Some rooms cannot accommodate young children because of their location or design. Share your preferred room arrangement early, especially when travelling during school holidays.

    5. Can the game drives be shortened for younger children?

Yes. When lodge location, park-entry rules and daily routing allow, a full-day drive may be divided into shorter morning and afternoon activities. Changes should be discussed with the guide in advance because returning to a distant lodge may require considerable driving or additional park arrangements.

    6. Are meals suitable for children?

Most premium lodges can provide simple child-friendly meals and accommodate common dietary requirements with advance notice. Parents must disclose allergies, intolerances and serious dietary restrictions before travel. Kitchens may not guarantee completely separate preparation areas, so severe allergies require detailed discussion before booking.

    7. Is the Lake Naivasha boat excursion safe for children?

The excursion is available only when an approved boat operator considers the weather and water conditions safe. Life jackets must be worn, and minimum-age rules may apply. Children must remain seated, follow the guide’s instructions and stay under direct parental supervision, especially near hippos and other wildlife.

    8. Do the lodges provide babysitting services?

Some premium lodges offer babysitting or child-minding services, but this is not universal and usually requires advance booking. Availability, staff qualifications, operating hours and fees vary. Parents should confirm the exact service directly through us before relying on it for private dinners or adult-only activities.

    9. What should we pack for children?

Bring comfortable neutral-coloured clothing, a warm layer for early game drives, sun hats, sunscreen, insect repellent, closed shoes and personal medication. Useful extras include binoculars, colouring materials, books, reusable water bottles and quiet travel games. Pack familiar snacks if a child has strong preferences, subject to Kenyan entry regulations.

    10. Can this family safari be customized?

Yes. You may add rest nights, choose shorter travel stages, upgrade accommodation, include a private vehicle or replace selected drives with family relaxation. We can also discuss balloon safaris, cultural visits and boat excursions, but age restrictions, safety rules, availability and additional fees must be confirmed before booking.
