Into the Great Rift Valley

Our guide collects you from a confirmed Nairobi hotel or airport point at about 6:30 a.m. After a briefing on the route and camera care, you will travel 225–280 km through Mai Mahiu and Narok, a drive of roughly 5–6.5 hours excluding breakfast, viewpoint and comfort stops. Escarpment scenery and the transition from cultivated highlands to open rangeland provide the visual introduction to your photographic safari.

Mara Light

Lunch is planned en route or at the camp, depending on gate and lodge location, with arrival generally between 1:30 and 3:00 p.m. After check-in, our safari driver enters the Maasai Mara for a 2–3-hour game drive shaped by available light and current wildlife movement. You may photograph plains game, elephants, giraffes, raptors or predators when encountered, without crowding animals. Return to your premium camp around sunset for dinner, battery charging and a short plan for the next day.

Early-Light Search

You will meet our guide near 6:00 a.m., with breakfast served early or packed according to lodge arrangements. The first 3–4 hours concentrate on low-angle light across grassland, acacia-dotted plains and watercourses. Rather than promising a particular animal, our guide reads tracks, calls and guide updates, then positions the vehicle at a respectful distance for behaviour, portraits and wider habitat photographs.

A Full Day in the Field

After a picnic lunch at an authorised site or a lodge lunch when routing permits, the photographic game drive continues into the afternoon. A full-day outing commonly lasts 8–10 hours, but its driving distance is not fixed because routes change with road conditions and sightings. You may work around the Mara or Talek river systems, marsh edges or open plains depending on your accommodation sector. Our journey returns to camp by about 6:00 p.m. for image backup, dinner and rest; off-road access is never assumed and all reserve rules remain in force.

A Different Mara Sector

After breakfast around 6:00 a.m., your second full Maasai Mara day explores a contrasting habitat or sector whenever gate access, road conditions and animal movement make it worthwhile. The guide may favour riverine woodland for layered compositions, broad plains for silhouettes, or escarpment views for landscape work. Activity usually begins by 6:30 a.m. and continues for 3–4 hours before the light becomes harder.

Patient Observation

Lunch is taken at a designated picnic place or back at the lodge, then you will resume game viewing during the softer afternoon light. Allow 8–10 hours for the combined day, although no fixed kilometre figure applies to an adaptive game-drive route. Seasonal migration herds and river crossings occur only when conditions align and are not guaranteed. The emphasis remains patient observation—waiting for interaction, clean backgrounds and natural movement rather than pursuing animals. You will reach camp near 6:00 p.m. for dinner and careful packing ahead of the next day’s transfer.

The Northbound Passage

Breakfast is served from about 6:00 a.m., followed by check-out and departure near 7:00 a.m. Our journey covers 220–270 km from the selected Mara gate or lodge to the Lake Nakuru area, usually requiring 5–6.5 hours of driving excluding lunch and comfort breaks. The road crosses the Loita Plains and agricultural highlands before descending toward the Rift Valley, offering a strong change from open savannah to farms, escarpments and urban approaches.

Nakuru Arrival

Lunch is scheduled in Narok, en route or near Nakuru according to progress. Arrival is generally between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m., after which you will check into a premium lodge inside the park or in the surrounding area. When daylight, gate hours and the chosen property allow, a short 1.5–2-hour drive may introduce woodland, lake-edge scenery or an elevated viewpoint; otherwise the photographic exploration begins early next day. Dinner and an equipment check follow at the lodge, with warm layers prepared for the cooler highland morning.

Forest and Shoreline

You will enter Lake Nakuru National Park at about 6:30 a.m. after an early breakfast or with a packed meal. The 3–4-hour game drive moves through fever-tree woodland, grassland, rocky viewpoints and accessible shoreline areas. Lake Nakuru is known for rhino conservation and diverse birdlife, yet sightings and flamingo concentrations change with water conditions. Our guide will use legal viewpoints and patient positioning for landscape, bird and mammal photography.

North to Bogoria

After leaving the park and taking lunch around noon, our safari continues 85–150 km toward Lake Bogoria, depending on the Nakuru exit, selected reserve gate and accommodation. The road transfer normally takes 2–3 hours without long stops. You will arrive during the afternoon, check into the confirmed lodge or camp area and, if access conditions permit, make a brief orientation visit toward the alkaline lake. Keep to marked ground because geothermal areas can be unstable and dangerously hot. Dinner is served at approximately 7:30 p.m., followed by preparation for an early lakeshore session.

Bogoria’s Volcanic Landscape

After breakfast around 6:00 a.m., you will spend about 2–3 hours exploring authorised sections of Lake Bogoria National Reserve. The narrow alkaline lake, escarpment and geothermal features create a distinctive photographic palette, while flamingos and other waterbirds appear in numbers that vary naturally. Our guide follows current reserve instructions, keeps everyone away from unsafe ground and never uses active steam or birds as guaranteed subjects.

South to Naivasha

Departing between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., our journey continues 150–180 km through Marigat, Nakuru or the confirmed road connection to Lake Naivasha. Allow 3–4 hours of driving excluding lunch, road delays and stops. You will reach the Naivasha area in mid-afternoon and settle into a premium lakeside or nearby lodge. A gentle shoreline photography session may be arranged before sunset, subject to property access and water levels. Dinner follows at about 7:30 p.m.; the guide will confirm the final morning’s boat or land-based activity.

Freshwater Finale

Breakfast is planned near 6:30 a.m. before a pre-booked 1–2-hour Naivasha activity. A licensed boat ride can offer low, stable viewpoints for waterbirds, papyrus edges and lakeside scenery, while a guided shore or sanctuary walk may be substituted when preferred and confirmed. Life jackets, boat-operator instructions, weather and safe distance from hippos are mandatory; neither close wildlife approaches nor a particular species is promised.

Return to Nairobi

After checking out at about 10:00 a.m., you will drive 90–110 km to Nairobi via the A104 corridor. The road journey takes around 2–3 hours excluding traffic, lunch and a possible Rift Valley viewpoint stop. Lunch can be taken in Naivasha or near Nairobi according to your onward schedule. Our guide drops you at a confirmed Nairobi hotel or, when flight timing safely allows, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, generally between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. Your seven-day photographic safari concludes with equipment and luggage checked before unloading.
