Your journey starts with a drive from Arusha to Tarangire National Park. The travel distance is 120 kilometers and takes about 2.5 hours. In December, the park is green and the baobab trees are full of leaves. You will spend the afternoon on a game drive looking for large elephant herds. A positive and unexpected moment is seeing many young animals born during the short rains. You will later drive to Manyara or Karatu for dinner and your overnight stay.

After a final morning game drive in the north, you begin the drive back to the central Serengeti. This 150-kilometer trip takes about 4 hours. This return journey allows for more game viewing and the chance to spot animals you might have missed. You might encounter a leopard resting in an acacia tree or a family of hyenas. An unexpected highlight is often seeing a rare bird species in its colorful breeding plumage. You will spend the night back in the central Serengeti area.

Day 6: Serengeti (Morning Game Drive) to Ngorongoro
Your day starts with an early morning game drive in the Serengeti to capture the wildlife in the early light. After breakfast, you drive for 3 hours toward the Ngorongoro Crater rim. As you reach the rim, the air becomes cool and crisp. A positive and unexpected moment is the first view of the crater floor from the lookout point through the clear December air. You will stay at a lodge on the rim or in nearby Karatu.
