Discover the thrill of trekking Kilimanjaro via Rongai Route FAQs answered for your epic journey to Africa highest peak
The Rongai Route is a 7-day Kilimanjaro trek, starting from the less-traveled north. It offers a pristine wilderness experience with shorter initial days for better acclimatization. You'll pass through lush forests to Mawenzi Pool, cross the barren Saddle, and ascend to Kilimanjaro summit via Gillman Point and Stella Point. Perfect for adventurous trekkers.
Your Kilimanjaro journey begins with an early breakfast in Moshi, followed by a drive to the remote Rongai Gate near the Kenya border. After registration, you start on your ascent to Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point. The first day's trek takes you through enchanting forests where wildlife may cross your path, and a trailside lunch break adds to the adventure. Rongai's allure lies in its tranquility and the opportunity to spot wildlife, thanks to its less-visited northern approach.

The most challenging part of the entire trek begins on day six as you begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Starting around midnight, you will trek by the light of your flashlight for the next six hours. The trail is very steep until you reach the crater rim at Gilman's Point. From there, the trek to Uhuru Peak is a gradual trek and not very difficult, but the altitude makes it long and tiring. The crater rim trek takes about two hours, and once you reach Uhuru Peak, take photos of your guide and group before beginning the descent to Horombo Hut.

Before you leave, you can buy t-shirts and sodas as souvenirs of your unforgettable journey to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro.
