Your 8-Day Lemosho Route Group Joining Kilimanjaro Climbing Safari begins with a morning drive from Moshi to Lemosho Gate on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro. After park registration, the group will start trekking through a peaceful rainforest trail filled with fresh air, green vegetation, tall trees, moss, ferns, and natural forest sounds. This first day is a perfect chance to meet your fellow climbers, understand the group pace, and begin building mountain teamwork. Our guides will lead everyone slowly using the Kilimanjaro pole pole style, helping the group start safely and comfortably. On arrival at Big Tree Campsite, the mountain crew will welcome the group with hot drinks, fresh food, and a friendly camp atmosphere.
Distance: 7–9 km trekking
Trekking Time: 5–6 hours
Starting Altitude: Around 2,780–2,895 m
Sleeping Altitude: Shira 1 Camp around 3,500 m
Vegetation: Rainforest transition, heather zone, moorland, giant heather, wild grasses, and open plateau views
After breakfast, the group will leave the rainforest and begin climbing toward Shira 1 Camp. The trail gradually changes from thick forest to heather, moorland, wild grasses, and open mountain scenery. This is the first major altitude gain on the route, so our guides will keep the group moving slowly and steadily. The advantage of this 8-day group joining itinerary is that climbers do not rush directly to Shira 2; instead, the group stops at Shira 1 to give the body more time to adjust. At camp, everyone will relax, share stories, enjoy warm tea and fresh meals, and start feeling the strong group connection that makes Kilimanjaro joining tours so enjoyable
Distance: 7–10 km trekking
Trekking Time: 3–5 hours
Starting Altitude: Around 3,500 m
Sleeping Altitude: Shira 2 Campsite around 3,850–3,900 m
Vegetation: Open moorland, volcanic rocks, short grasses, giant heather plants, and wide Shira Plateau scenery
Today the group will cross the beautiful Shira Plateau from Shira 1 to Shira 2 Campsite. This is a scenic and moderate trekking day, giving everyone time to enjoy the wide landscapes, volcanic stones, open moorland, and possible views of Kibo Peak. Because the day is not too long, it helps the group continue acclimatizing without unnecessary pressure. Our guides will monitor how each climber is feeling, encourage hydration, and keep the walking rhythm smooth. At Shira 2, the group will settle into camp, enjoy hot drinks, fresh food, and a peaceful evening under the open Kilimanjaro sky.
Distance: 9–10 km trekking
Trekking Time: 6–8 hours
Starting Altitude: Around 3,850–3,900 m
Highest Point: Lava Tower around 4,600–4,640 m
Sleeping Altitude: Barranco Camp around 3,960–3,980 m
Vegetation: Moorland, alpine desert, volcanic ridges, giant groundsels, lobelia, and senecio plants
After breakfast, the group will trek toward Lava Tower, one of the most important acclimatization points on Mount Kilimanjaro. The landscape becomes drier and rockier as you enter the alpine desert zone, with dramatic volcanic formations and open high-altitude views. This day follows the important mountain principle of climbing high and sleeping lower, helping the group prepare for the summit days ahead. Our guides will check everyone’s condition and keep the pace safe as the altitude increases. After lunch and rest near Lava Tower, the group will descend into Barranco Valley, famous for its giant groundsels, lobelia, and senecio plants. At Barranco Camp, the group will enjoy dinner, hot drinks, and a beautiful evening below the famous Barranco Wall.
Distance: 5–6 km trekking
Trekking Time: 4–5 hours
Starting Altitude: Around 3,960–3,980 m
Sleeping Altitude: Karanga Campsite around 3,995–4,050 m
Vegetation: Alpine desert, rocky ridges, short grasses, dry shrubs, and scattered giant groundsels
This day begins with the famous Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting and memorable sections of the Lemosho Route. It may look steep from camp, but it does not require technical climbing, and our guides will help the group move safely step by step. This is a great moment for teamwork, photos, laughter, and encouragement among climbers. After reaching the top, the group will enjoy amazing views of valleys, glaciers, and the upper slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. The trail then crosses rocky ridges and descends into Karanga Valley before reaching Karanga Campsite. Since this is a shorter day, the group will have time to rest, recover, eat well, and prepare for the final approach to Barafu.
Distance: 4–5 km trekking
Trekking Time: 3–4 hours
Starting Altitude: Around 3,995–4,050 m
Sleeping Altitude: Barafu Campsite around 4,600–4,673 m
Vegetation: Dry alpine desert, volcanic stones, rocky slopes, short grasses, and open high-altitude terrain
After breakfast at Karanga, the group will continue slowly toward Barafu Campsite, the base camp for the summit attempt. Although the distance is short, the altitude is high, so our guides will keep the pace calm and controlled. The landscape becomes colder, drier, and more rugged, with volcanic rocks and open views toward the summit area. On arrival at Barafu, the group will rest, eat early, drink warm tea, and prepare summit clothing, headlamps, gloves, snacks, and water. Our guides will give a detailed summit briefing and explain how the group will move together safely during the midnight climb to Uhuru Peak.
Distance: 5 km ascent to Uhuru Peak, then 12 km descent to Mweka Campsite
Trekking Time: 6–8 hours up, then 5–7 hours down
Starting Altitude: Barafu Campsite around 4,600–4,673 m
Summit Altitude: Uhuru Peak 5,895 m
Sleeping Altitude: Mweka Campsite around 3,068–3,100 m
Vegetation: Arctic summit zone, scree slopes, glaciers, ice fields, then heath and upper forest zone on descent
Around midnight, the guides will wake the group with hot tea and light summit food before the final climb begins. This is the most challenging and emotional day of the 8-Day Lemosho Route Group Joining Kilimanjaro Climbing Safari. The group will move slowly through the cold summit zone toward Stella Point and then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Our guides will stay close, encourage every climber, monitor safety, and keep the group moving with patience and confidence. Group joining becomes very powerful on summit night because encouragement from fellow climbers can help you continue when the climb feels difficult. After reaching Uhuru Peak, the group will celebrate, take photos, and descend to Barafu for a short rest before continuing to Mweka Campsite.
Distance: 10 km trekking, then 30–50 km drive to Moshi
Trekking Time: 3–4 hours
Driving Time: 1–2 hours
Starting Altitude: Mweka Campsite around 3,068–3,100 m
Ending Altitude: Mweka Gate around 1,640 m, then Moshi around 890 m
Vegetation: Rainforest, wet forest trails, tall trees, moss, ferns, flowers, and rich green vegetation
After the final breakfast on Mount Kilimanjaro, the group will descend through the green rainforest toward Mweka Gate. This last walk is peaceful and refreshing after the cold summit zone, with tall trees, moss, ferns, flowers, and wet forest paths along the trail. Our guides will walk with the group at a relaxed pace as everyone reflects on the journey from Lemosho Gate to Shira Plateau, Lava Tower, Barranco, Karanga, Barafu, and Uhuru Peak. At Mweka Gate, you will sign out and receive your summit certificate if you reached Stella Point or Uhuru Peak. After group photos and celebration, we will drive back to Moshi, where you can enjoy a hot shower, good food, and a well-deserved rest after completing your shared Kilimanjaro adventure.

An 8-Day Lemosho Route Group Joining Kilimanjaro Safari is a shared climbing package where you join other travelers on the same route, dates, guides, and mountain support team. It is ideal for solo travelers, couples, friends, and small groups who want a social and affordable Kilimanjaro climbing experience.
The 8-day Lemosho Route gives the group more time to acclimatize because Shira 1 and Shira 2 are separated into different days. This slower pace helps climbers adjust better before reaching Lava Tower, Barranco, Karanga, Barafu, and the summit.
Yes, this package is excellent for solo travelers. You can join other climbers, share camp life, make new friends, and enjoy group motivation during the trek. Many solo travelers choose group joining because it feels safer, more social, and more affordable.
Yes, group joining is usually more budget-friendly because climbers share some operational costs, such as guides, cook, camping support, and logistics. It gives you professional mountain service while keeping the price lower than a fully private climb.
The group will follow the same itinerary, but guides will manage the pace according to the climbers’ condition. The main walking style is pole pole, meaning slowly and steadily, to help everyone adjust to altitude safely.
The 8-day itinerary gives more time on the mountain, especially around Shira 1 and Shira 2. This makes the climb feel less rushed and gives the body more time to adapt before the higher altitude sections and summit night.
You do not need technical climbing experience, but you should be physically fit and prepared for long trekking days, cold weather, and high altitude. Good preparation with hiking, walking, cardio, and leg exercises is recommended before the trip.
Our guides give daily briefings, lead the group at a safe pace, monitor altitude condition, encourage hydration, and support climbers during difficult sections. On summit night, they stay close to the group and help everyone move safely toward Uhuru Peak.
The hardest day is usually summit day from Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and down to Mweka Camp. It is long, cold, and physically demanding, but group encouragement and guide support help climbers stay motivated.
This package is best for solo travelers, friends, couples, students, budget-conscious adventurers, and anyone who wants to climb Kilimanjaro with a supportive group. It is also good for travelers who want a scenic route with better acclimatization time.
