Starting on our adventure, we drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate for registration. After a satisfying lunch, we reach the Lemosho trailhead and begin trekking through the captivating rainforest. The trail guides us through untouched nature, leading us to our first camp, Mti Mkubwa Camp, situated at 9,100 ft. This lush rainforest setting sets the stage for an unforgettable journey.

Leaving Mti Mkubwa Camp, we transition from the rainforest to a picturesque landscape of tall grasses, heather, and volcanic rock. Ascending rolling hills and crossing streams, we reach the stunning Shira Ridge. Descending gently, we arrive at Shira Camp 1, located at 11,500 ft, where the panoramic view of Kibo Peak from the plateau takes our breath away.

Today, we explore the expansive Shira plateau, trekking towards the glaciered peak of Kibo. The moorland meadows and unique scenery accompany us on the trail. We have the option to continue to Shira 2 Camp, joining fellow trekkers from the Machame route, or venture off the beaten path to Moir Hut Camp, nestled at the base of Lent Hills. This day offers excellent acclimatization opportunities and breathtaking views.

Continuing our journey, we ascend a ridge and pass the junction towards Kibo's peak. The landscape transforms as we head towards the "Shark's Tooth" known as Lava Tower. Afterward, we descend to Barranco Camp, situated at 13,000 ft. Although the elevation remains similar, this day plays a vital role in acclimatization, preparing us for the summit push.

Leaving Barranco Camp, we conquer the challenge of the Barranco Wall and traverse hills and valleys. The steep cliffs give way to the Karanga Valley campsite, where we spend a short day for further acclimatization. Surrounded by the alpine desert habitat, we prepare ourselves mentally and physically for the final ascent.

Leaving Karanga Camp, we head to the junction connecting with the Mweka Trail. Ascending to Barafu Hut at 15,300 ft, we complete the South Circuit. From this vantage point, the majestic peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo greet us. Resting, dining, and gathering strength, we prepare for the upcoming summit day.

The most challenging day awaits as we embark on the summit attempt. Starting in the early morning hours, we navigate between glaciers towards Stella Point on the crater rim. The mental and physical challenges intensify, but the sunrise at Stella Point is a breathtaking reward. Continuing towards the summit, we reach Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point at 19,345 ft. After celebrating our achievement, we descend to Mweka Hut, passing through Barafu Camp for a well-deserved lunch. Trekking poles and gaiters assist us on the loose gravel. Mweka Camp, enveloped in mist or rain, awaits us in the upper forest. We enjoy our final dinner on the mountain and rest.

Following breakfast, we descend to the Mweka Park Gate, receiving our summit certificates. The lower elevations may be wet and muddy, but gaiters and trekking poles provide assistance. A one-hour drive takes us to Mweka Village, where transportation awaits to bring us back to our hotel in Moshi. It's time to reflect on our incredible journey up Mount Kilimanjaro.
