The 8 Days Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro Climbing Adventure is one of the most scenic and successful ways to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Starting from Kilimanjaro's quiet western slopes, this route passes through lush rainforest, the beautiful Shira Plateau, alpine desert, and dramatic volcanic landscapes before reaching Africa's highest summit. The additional trekking day allows for excellent acclimatization, making the climb more comfortable and increasing your chances of a successful summit. Led by experienced mountain guides and supported by professional porters and cooks, this adventure offers breathtaking scenery, outstanding service, and an unforgettable journey to the Roof of Africa.
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK), our friendly representative will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. Depending on your arrival airport, the journey takes approximately 45–90 minutes. After checking in, meet your experienced mountain guide for a detailed climb briefing and equipment inspection. During this session, you'll review the itinerary, discuss altitude safety, and ensure all your trekking gear is ready for the adventure ahead. Spend the rest of the day relaxing and preparing for your unforgettable journey to the Roof of Africa. Meals: Dinner (if included).
After breakfast, drive approximately 3 to 4 hours from Moshi to Lemosho Gate (2,100 m) for park registration before beginning your climb. The trail winds gently through the lush rainforest, where towering trees, colorful birds, and black-and-white colobus monkeys create a peaceful atmosphere. This gradual ascent allows your body to begin acclimatizing while enjoying one of Kilimanjaro's most scenic forest sections. After trekking about 6 km, you'll arrive at Big Tree Campsite (Mti Mkubwa Camp – 2,650 m), where your mountain crew will have your tents prepared. Relax, enjoy a freshly prepared dinner, and settle in for your first night on the mountain
Today's trek leaves the rainforest behind as you enter the beautiful heath and moorland zone. The trail climbs steadily through giant heather, volcanic rocks, and open mountain landscapes with spectacular views of Kibo Peak and the surrounding plains. As you gain altitude, you'll notice dramatic changes in vegetation and scenery. After hiking approximately 8 km, you'll reach Shira 1 Camp (3,500 m), where you can relax, enjoy a warm meal, and admire one of Kilimanjaro's most beautiful sunset views.
Today's shorter trek allows your body more time to acclimatize while crossing the spectacular Shira Plateau, one of the world's highest volcanic plateaus. The relatively gentle trail offers breathtaking panoramic views of Kibo Peak, Mount Meru, and the vast alpine landscape. Upon arriving at Shira 2 Campsite (3,850 m), you'll have time to relax or take an optional short acclimatization walk with your guide before enjoying dinner and another peaceful night on the mountain.
Today is a key acclimatization day. After breakfast, you'll gradually ascend through the alpine desert to the impressive Lava Tower (4,630 m), where you'll stop for lunch and allow your body to adapt to the higher altitude. Afterwards, descend to Barranco Camp (3,960 m) using the effective "climb high, sleep low" strategy, which significantly improves acclimatization and increases summit success. Along the route, enjoy dramatic volcanic scenery, giant senecio plants, and breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro's glaciers.
After breakfast, tackle the famous Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting highlights of the Lemosho Route. Although it looks steep, the climb is non-technical and your experienced guides will assist you throughout. Once at the top, continue across scenic ridges and valleys before arriving at Karanga Campsite (4,035 m). This shorter hiking day provides valuable recovery time, helping your body acclimatize while conserving energy for the upcoming summit attempt
Today's trek is relatively short as you make your way to Barafu Campsite (4,673 m), your final base camp before the summit. The trail climbs steadily across rocky alpine terrain with magnificent views of Mawenzi Peak and the surrounding glaciers. After arriving at camp, enjoy an early lunch, organize your summit gear, attend the final safety briefing, and rest before waking around midnight to begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak.
Your summit climb begins shortly after midnight as you ascend slowly beneath a sky filled with stars toward Stella Point, before making the final push to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. Watching the sunrise from the Roof of Africa is a truly unforgettable experience and the reward for your determination. After celebrating your achievement and taking photographs at the summit, descend carefully to Barafu Camp for a short rest and meal before continuing to Mweka Campsite (3,100 m) for your final overnight stay on the mountain.
After breakfast, enjoy your final descent through Kilimanjaro's lush rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640 m). The trail is surrounded by towering trees, colorful birds, and rich vegetation, offering a relaxing end to your mountain adventure. At the gate, you'll complete the park exit formalities and receive your official Mount Kilimanjaro Summit Certificate. Afterwards, your driver will transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi (approximately 45–60 minutes), where you can enjoy a hot shower, celebrate your successful climb, and reflect on the unforgettable memories of conquering Africa's highest mountain
