You will experience northern Kenya’s distinctive wildlife, Lake Nakuru’s protected habitats, Lake Naivasha’s freshwater scenery and two rewarding Mara safari days. Premium lodges may provide festive meals, decorations, music or family programs, but exact arrangements depend on the selected properties and written confirmation. Day 1: Christmas Day – Nairobi to Samburu Wildlife Country

Christmas Day – Nairobi to Samburu Wildlife Country

A Festive Nairobi Departure

Our guide will collect you from JKIA, Wilson Airport or a confirmed Nairobi hotel between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. on 25 December. Travel 310–350 km through Thika, Karatina, Nanyuki and Isiolo in 5½–7 hours excluding lunch, holiday traffic and comfort stops. Some roadside businesses may operate reduced hours, so meals and stops will be planned beforehand.

Christmas Evening in Samburu

After check-in and lunch, depart at approximately 3:30 p.m. for a 2–2½-hour introductory game drive. Search for elephants, Grevy’s zebras, reticulated giraffes, gerenuks and Beisa oryx among riverine woodland and dry bush. Return around sunset for Christmas dinner and the lodge’s confirmed festive program. Decorations, entertainment and special menus vary and will only be included when stated in your booking.

Farewell to Samburu

When the transfer schedule permits, enjoy a short wildlife drive at approximately 6:30 a.m. before returning for breakfast. Check out between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. after confirming that Christmas gifts, cameras, chargers and travel documents have been packed. Wildlife products and natural souvenirs should never be collected from protected areas.

A Scenic Festive Transfer

Travel 330–360 km through Isiolo, Nanyuki and the Nyahururu region, requiring 6–8 hours excluding lunch and holiday road delays. Observe the changing vegetation as semi-arid country gives way to agricultural highlands and Rift Valley scenery. Lake Nakuru Wildlife Morning

Enter Lake Nakuru National Park at approximately 6:30 a.m. for a 3–4-hour game drive. Search woodland, grassland and lakeshore habitat for rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, baboons and waterbirds. Flamingo numbers fluctuate with lake conditions and food availability. Holiday travel never changes park rules, so quiet, respectful viewing remains essential.

Premium Lakeside Relaxation

After breakfast or brunch, drive 75–100 km to Lake Naivasha in 1½–2½ hours. Check in and join a confirmed 60–90-minute boat excursion when weather and lake conditions are suitable. Properly fitted life jackets are compulsory. Fish eagles, pelicans, cormorants and hippos may be observed. Return before sunset for dinner and a relaxed festive evening beside the lake.

Travel 220–260 km through Mai Mahiu and Narok, taking 4½–6½ hours excluding lunch and road conditions. After checking into your premium camp or lodge, depart at approximately 3:30 p.m. for an introductory game drive. Search for elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, antelopes and predators. RELATED FAQS ABOUT 8 Days Premium Christmas and New Year Kenya Safari

1.Which dates are used for this Christmas and New Year safari?

The suggested schedule operates from 25 December to 1 January. Starting on another date changes the location of Christmas Day or New Year’s Eve, so the final itinerary must clearly identify where each celebration will occur.

2.Are Christmas and New Year dinners included?

They are included only when offered by the selected lodges and listed in the confirmed quotation. Some properties apply compulsory festive supplements, while drinks, champagne and private dining may be charged separately.

3.Will Maasai Mara have a New Year countdown?

This depends on the confirmed lodge or camp. Programs may include dinner, music, dancing or a quiet countdown. Exact times and activities should be confirmed before arrival.

    4.Are fireworks permitted?

Fireworks should not be expected near wildlife because noise may disturb animals and other guests. Many properties prohibit them. Responsible celebrations normally focus on meals, music and shared experiences.

5.How early should we book this festive safari?

Booking several months in advance is strongly recommended. Premium rooms, family units, private vehicles and preferred camps can become unavailable quickly during Christmas and New Year.

    6.Can families with children join?

Yes. Parents should confirm family-room availability, meal times, children’s programs and any age restrictions at tented camps. Adult supervision remains the responsibility of parents or guardians.

7.Can we arrange private festive decorations or a cake?

A cake, decorated table or private celebration may be requested. Availability, cost and delivery must be confirmed in writing. Decorations should be reusable or responsibly disposed of.

    8.What weather should we expect?

Conditions vary between Samburu, the central highlands, Rift Valley lakes and Maasai Mara. Pack sun protection, a light rain jacket and warm clothing for early drives and evenings.

9.Will we see the wildebeest migration during the holidays?

The major seasonal migration herds are not guaranteed in Maasai Mara during Christmas or New Year. Resident wildlife can still provide rewarding sightings, but animal distribution depends on natural conditions.

10.Can we extend the holiday after New Year’s Day?

Yes. Additional Maasai Mara nights, Nairobi accommodation or a beach extension may be arranged subject to availability and cost. The extension should be booked early during this high-demand period.
