8 Days Premium Family Safari from Nairobi

Comfortable Journey North

Our guide will collect your family from JKIA, Wilson Airport or a confirmed Nairobi hotel between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. Travel 310–350 km through Thika, Karatina, Nanyuki and Isiolo in 5½–7 hours excluding lunch, traffic and family comfort stops. The guide will explain the changing scenery and stop only at safe, suitable locations. Children should remain properly seated whenever the vehicle is moving.

First Family Wildlife Drive

After lunch and check-in, enjoy time to rest before departing at approximately 3:30 p.m. Samburu may introduce the family to elephants, reticulated giraffes, Grevy’s zebras, gerenuks and Beisa oryx. The first drive lasts about 2–2½ hours and can be shortened when younger travellers become tired. Return around sunset for dinner and a briefing about lodge safety, meal arrangements and the following day’s activities.

Early River Exploration

Breakfast is served at approximately 6:00 a.m., with departure between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. Explore riverine woodland, open scrubland and rocky landscapes while our guide explains tracks, feeding behaviour and animal adaptations. Lions, leopards and elephants may be encountered, but no sighting can be guaranteed. Children must remain inside the vehicle unless the guide confirms that exiting is permitted.

Rest and Afternoon Safari

Return for lunch between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m., followed by rest at the lodge. Swimming is permitted only in designated pools and under direct adult supervision. Leave again at approximately 3:30 p.m. for a cooler afternoon drive, watching animals move toward water or shade. Return between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. for dinner. A shorter safari schedule can be discussed when travelling with very young children.

Farewell to Samburu

When the transfer program allows, take a short wildlife drive at approximately 6:30 a.m. before breakfast. This offers a final opportunity to observe elephants, birds or northern herbivores without promising a specific encounter. Return to the lodge and complete check-out between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. Parents should confirm that children’s devices, medication, clothing and travel documents are securely packed.

Family Transfer to Nakuru

Travel 330–360 km through Isiolo, Nanyuki and the Nyahururu region, requiring 6–8 hours excluding lunch and family stops. The driver will schedule practical breaks at safe locations, but roadside stopping cannot always occur immediately. Arrive at your premium Lake Nakuru accommodation during the late afternoon or early evening. Enjoy dinner, allow children to rest and prepare clothing and binoculars for the following morning.

Lake Nakuru Wildlife Drive

Enter Lake Nakuru National Park at approximately 6:30 a.m. for a 3–4-hour game drive. Search for white and black rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, baboons and waterbirds across woodland, grassland and lakeshore areas. Flamingo numbers vary naturally and cannot be guaranteed. Our guide will explain why the park provides valuable habitat for several threatened species.

Family Time at Lake Naivasha

After breakfast or brunch, drive 75–100 km to Lake Naivasha in 1½–2½ hours. Check into your premium lodge before a confirmed 60–90-minute boat trip. Correctly fitted life jackets are compulsory, and children must remain seated under adult supervision. Possible sightings include fish eagles, pelicans, cormorants and hippos. Return before sunset and never allow children to approach an unprotected shoreline because hippos may graze on land.

Breakfast is available from approximately 6:30 a.m. Families may enjoy approved lodge grounds, watch birds or participate in a confirmed boat excursion if it was not completed the previous afternoon. Parents must supervise children near gardens, swimming pools and the lake. Check out between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. after inspecting the room for chargers, toys, medication and travel documents.

First Maasai Mara Drive

Travel 220–260 km through Mai Mahiu and Narok in 4½–6½ hours excluding lunch, traffic and comfort stops. After checking into your premium Mara property, depart at approximately 3:30 p.m. for an introductory wildlife drive. Elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, antelopes and predators may be encountered. Return around sunset for dinner and discuss whether the next day should use a full-day picnic or a lodge-based break.

Learning on the Savannah

Depart between 6:15 and 6:30 a.m. after breakfast or with packed meals. Our guide will make wildlife information engaging for different ages, explaining tracks, food chains and responsible behaviour. The family may observe elephants, giraffes, antelopes and predators across grassland and riverine habitats. Game-drive length can be adjusted when children require a break, subject to distance and reserve regulations.

Picnic and Afternoon Exploration

Enjoy lunch around 1:00 p.m. at an authorized picnic site or return to the lodge when the selected schedule allows. Children must not run, feed animals or leave food unattended. Continue through another Mara sector in the afternoon before returning between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. Dinner follows at the lodge. Parents should prepare warm layers, water and quiet activities for the next safari day.

A Different Mara Route

Leave at approximately 6:30 a.m. to explore a sector not covered extensively on Day 6. Depending on natural movement, the family may observe lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles and birds of prey. Wildlife remains unpredictable. Our driver will avoid chasing, surrounding or blocking animals, giving children a positive example of responsible safari behaviour.

Final Wilderness Evening

Lunch is served between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. at an authorized picnic location or the lodge. Continue until approximately 5:30 p.m., including reasonable rest stops where permitted. Return for the final Maasai Mara dinner and organize luggage for Nairobi. Families with an early flight must discuss transfer risks in advance because road delays and Nairobi traffic cannot be controlled.

Final Savannah Experience

When the road schedule permits, enjoy a short game drive at approximately 6:30 a.m. Return for breakfast and check out between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. Parents should inspect beds, bathrooms, charging areas and the vehicle for children’s belongings. The guide will confirm the expected Nairobi arrival and planned lunch stop before departure.

Return to Nairobi

Travel 255–300 km through Narok and the Great Rift Valley, taking 5–6½ hours excluding lunch, comfort stops and Nairobi traffic. Drop-off is provided at JKIA, Wilson Airport or a confirmed Nairobi hotel. International flights should depart late in the evening. Your family journey concludes with shared memories from Samburu, the Rift Valley lakes and Maasai Mara.
