Journey through Central Kenya

Our guide will collect you from JKIA, Wilson Airport or your Nairobi hotel between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. Travel 310–350 km through Thika, Karatina, Nanyuki and Isiolo, requiring 5½–7 hours excluding traffic, lunch and approved stops. Along the route, our guide will introduce the agricultural highlands, Mount Kenya region and transition into the dry northern landscape without presenting roadside communities as tourist attractions.

First Samburu Experience

After lunch and check-in, depart at approximately 3:30 p.m. for an introductory game drive. Samburu’s riverine woodland and open scrub may reveal elephants, Grevy’s zebras, reticulated giraffes, gerenuks and Beisa oryx. Our guide will explain how the Ewaso Nyiro ecosystem supports both wildlife and surrounding communities. Return around sunset for dinner and a briefing about respectful conduct during the confirmed cultural visit.

Wildlife beside the Ewaso Nyiro

Breakfast begins at approximately 6:00 a.m., followed by a 6:30 a.m. departure. Explore the reserve’s river corridor, rocky hills and open bush while searching for northern wildlife. Our guide will discuss conservation, access to water and the relationship between protected landscapes and neighbouring pastoral communities. Wildlife encounters remain natural and cannot be guaranteed.

Respectful Samburu Cultural Visit

After lunch and rest, join a 1½–2½-hour community-hosted experience when included in the booking. Local hosts may discuss homestead organization, livestock, beadwork, family life, education and changing traditions. Ask permission before photographing any person and agree on prices before purchasing crafts. Community fees and included activities must be listed in the quotation. Return to the lodge by approximately 5:30 p.m. for dinner and reflection.

Final Northern Morning

When the transfer schedule permits, enjoy a short drive from approximately 6:30 a.m. before returning for breakfast. Check out between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m. after ensuring crafts, documents and valuables are packed securely. The guide will explain how altitude, rainfall and land use change as the journey returns toward Kenya’s central highlands.

Highlands and Rift Valley Journey

Travel 330–360 km through Isiolo, Nanyuki and the Nyahururu region in 6–8 hours excluding lunch and road delays. Approved stops may introduce local food, farming landscapes or viewpoints without intruding on private community life. Arrive at your premium Lake Nakuru accommodation during the late afternoon or evening. Dinner is served after check-in, followed by preparation for the next morning’s park experience.

Lake Nakuru Wildlife and Conservation

Enter Lake Nakuru National Park at approximately 6:30 a.m. for a 3–4-hour wildlife drive. Search woodland, grassland and lakeshore habitat for rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, baboons and waterbirds. Our guide will discuss conservation work and the environmental factors influencing lake conditions. Flamingo numbers vary naturally and cannot be promised.

Lake Naivasha Communities and Wildlife

Travel 75–100 km to Lake Naivasha in 1½–2½ hours after breakfast or brunch. A confirmed boat excursion lasting 60–90 minutes may introduce freshwater birdlife, fishing activity and the lake environment while maintaining safe distances from hippos. Community or conservation visits are included only when arranged beforehand. Return to your premium lodge before sunset and avoid unprotected shorelines after dark.

Freshwater Morning

Breakfast begins at approximately 6:30 a.m. Spend time within approved lodge grounds or complete the boat experience if scheduled for the morning. Check out between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. Our guide will introduce the day’s journey and explain that Maasai identity is diverse and contemporary rather than limited to simplified tourism presentations.

Arrival in Maasai Mara

Travel 220–260 km through Mai Mahiu and Narok in 4½–6½ hours excluding lunch and road conditions. After check-in, leave at approximately 3:30 p.m. for a wildlife drive across open savannah and riverine habitat. Possible sightings include elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras and predators. Return around sunset for dinner and confirmation of the following days’ wildlife and community schedule.

Savannah Wildlife Experience

Depart between 6:15 and 6:30 a.m. after breakfast or with a packed meal. Explore grassland, seasonal streams and riverine woodland while our guide explains wildlife behaviour and the wider Mara ecosystem. Lions, cheetahs, leopards and large herbivores may be encountered, although sightings remain unpredictable.

Landscapes Shared by People and Wildlife

Lunch is served at approximately 1:00 p.m. at an authorized picnic site. Continue through a different wildlife sector while learning about conservation challenges, livestock, tourism and community livelihoods in the greater Mara region. Discussion will avoid presenting complex land-use issues as simple or uniform. Return between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. for dinner at the premium lodge or camp.

Maasai-Hosted Cultural Experience

After breakfast, visit a recognized community host when this activity is included. During the 1½–2½-hour experience, residents may share information about homes, livestock, beadwork, education, ceremonies and modern community life. Participation, demonstrations and photography require consent. Craft purchases are optional and prices should be agreed directly and respectfully.

Final Mara Wildlife Drive

After lunch, continue with an afternoon wildlife drive until approximately 5:30 p.m. Explore an area not extensively covered on Day 6 while searching for elephants, giraffes, antelopes, predators and birds of prey. Return for the final Mara dinner. Review the journey as an experience connecting communities, conservation, landscapes and wildlife rather than treating culture and nature as separate subjects.

Travel 255–300 km through Narok and the Great Rift Valley in 5–6½ hours excluding lunch, road conditions and Nairobi traffic. Drop-off is provided at JKIA, Wilson Airport or a confirmed Nairobi hotel. International flights should be scheduled for late evening. The journey concludes with a deeper understanding of Kenya’s landscapes, wildlife and diverse living cultures.
