Day 1: Nairobi to Lake Bogoria – Across Kenya’s Rift Valley

Nairobi to Lake Bogoria – Across Kenya’s Rift Valley

Scenic Road Departure

Our guide will collect you from JKIA or a confirmed Nairobi hotel between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. Begin the 270–300 km drive through Kenya’s central highlands, Nakuru and Marigat. The journey takes 5–6½ hours excluding traffic, lunch and photography stops. Travelling by road provides changing views of cultivated highlands, Rift Valley escarpments and increasingly dry northern scenery.

Lake Bogoria Discovery

Arrive for lunch or during the early afternoon and settle into your premium accommodation. At approximately 3:30 p.m., explore accessible areas around Lake Bogoria, where geothermal features, rugged escarpments and seasonal waterbirds create a striking introduction to the safari. Flamingos may be present when feeding conditions are favourable, but concentrations vary naturally. Remain on approved ground near the hot springs because some surfaces are dangerously hot. Return before darkness for dinner and overnight.

Lake Bogoria to Lake Nakuru – Geothermal Scenery and Wildlife

Last Bogoria Experience

After breakfast around 6:00 a.m., enjoy a final excursion through permitted sections of the Lake Bogoria landscape. Cooler morning conditions can produce attractive light over the escarpment and geothermal steam. Our guide will search for flamingos, waterbirds and dry-country wildlife while maintaining a safe distance from sensitive areas. Return to the accommodation and check out around 9:00 a.m.

Road to Rhino Country

Drive 110–130 km through Marigat toward Lake Nakuru, taking 2½–3½ hours excluding lunch and road delays. After checking into your premium lodge, begin an afternoon game drive at approximately 3:30 p.m. Lake Nakuru’s woodland, grassland, lake environment and rocky slopes may reveal rhinos, buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes, baboons and numerous birds. Water levels influence shoreline access and animal distribution. Return near sunset for dinner and a restful overnight.

Nakuru Wildlife Morning

Leave around 6:30 a.m. for an early game drive through Lake Nakuru National Park. Search the woodland edges, open clearings and lake viewpoints while temperatures remain comfortable. Wildlife moves freely, but possible observations include rhinos, buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes, baboons and birds of prey. Return for breakfast and complete check-out between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m.

The Mara Road Journey

Continue 230–270 km through Mau Narok or another practical route toward Maasai Mara. The transfer takes 5–6½ hours excluding lunch, weather and road conditions. After checking into your premium camp or lodge, enjoy a short introductory game drive at approximately 4:00 p.m. when daylight permits. Across the Mara Plains

Breakfast is served around 6:00 a.m., followed by departure between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. Our guide will select productive grasslands, seasonal waterways and riverine habitats according to recent wildlife movement and road conditions. Lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, hyenas, antelopes and diverse birds may be encountered, although no particular species is guaranteed.

Picnic in the Wilderness

Enjoy a picnic lunch at an authorized site between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. The afternoon safari provides more time to observe animal behaviour, photograph landscapes and follow wildlife activity without rushing between sightings. Migration herds are seasonal and depend on rainfall and natural movement. Our vehicle will remain on permitted tracks and respect viewing distances. Descent to Naivasha

Travel 220–250 km through Narok and Mai Mahiu, requiring 4½–6 hours excluding lunch, traffic and comfort stops. The road reveals changing scenery as the journey returns to the Rift Valley. Arrive at Lake Naivasha during the afternoon and settle into your premium lakeside accommodation. Enjoy designated lodge grounds or a confirmed guided activity. Explore Amboseli’s open plains, woodland and wetland habitats while searching for elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, predators and birds. Our guide will adjust the route according to wildlife activity and accessible tracks.

Afternoon Wildlife Search

Lunch is served between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. at the lodge or an authorized picnic site. Continue across the ecosystem during the afternoon, observing wildlife around spring-fed wetlands and surrounding plains. Complete check-out between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. while our guide loads and secures the luggage.

Nairobi Arrival

Travel 200–240 km through Emali to Nairobi, taking 4–5½ hours excluding lunch, traffic and comfort stops. Drop-off is available at JKIA, Wilson Airport or a confirmed Nairobi hotel. RELATED FAQS ABOUT 8 Days Premium Kenya Road Safari from Nairobi

    1. Does the road safari use any domestic flights?

No. The standard itinerary begins in Nairobi, connects every destination by private safari vehicle and returns to Nairobi by road on Day 8.

    2. Are the road transfers tiring?

Some transfers are long, especially Naivasha to Amboseli. Comfort stops, lunch and suitable departure times are planned, but travellers should consider their ability to sit for extended periods.

    3. What type of vehicle is used?

A customized safari vehicle with viewing windows and a roof designed for game viewing is normally used. The confirmed quotation will identify the vehicle type and passenger capacity.

    4. Can we stop for photographs during transfers?

Yes, where parking is legal, safe and compatible with the day’s schedule. The guide cannot stop on unsafe shoulders, restricted roads or places that could delay park arrival significantly

    5. Are all road distances fixed?

The distance varies according to the selected accommodation, entry gate, road condition and traffic diversion. The itinerary provides realistic ranges for each transfer.

    6. Can we begin outside Nairobi?

Alternative pickup locations may be considered, but the route, transfer cost and first-day timing must be recalculated before confirmation.

    7. Is the safari suitable during rainy periods?

It can operate during different seasons, but heavy rain may affect unpaved roads, activity timings and access to some tracks. The guide will prioritize safety.

    8. What luggage works best for a road safari?

Soft-sided bags are easier to arrange inside a safari vehicle. Keep medication, documents, valuables, water and essential camera equipment in a compact day bag.

    9. Can extra nights be added?

Yes. Additional nights in Maasai Mara, Naivasha, Amboseli or Nairobi can be requested subject to accommodation and park-fee availability.

    10. Where will we be dropped off?

Standard drop-off is available at JKIA, Wilson Airport or a confirmed Nairobi hotel. Any alternative destination must be approved and priced before travel.
