Book an 8-day premium photographic safari in Kenya covering Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha and Amboseli from Nairobi.

Eight Days of Wildlife and Landscape Photography

This 8-day premium photographic safari in Kenya is designed for travellers who want time, comfort and flexibility to capture the country’s remarkable wildlife and landscapes. Beginning in Nairobi, our journey explores the open plains and riverine habitats of Maasai Mara, the rhino country and woodland scenery of Lake Nakuru, the freshwater environment of Lake Naivasha and the elephant-rich wetlands of Amboseli. A private safari vehicle allows our guide to position the vehicle thoughtfully for available light, animal behaviour and uncluttered backgrounds whenever park rules permit. Premium accommodation provides comfortable rooms, quality meals, charging facilities and valuable rest between photographic sessions. Wildlife sightings, migration activity and clear Mount Kilimanjaro views depend on natural conditions and cannot be guaranteed.

Nairobi to Maasai Mara – First Savannah Photography

Journey into the Rift Valley

Our guide will collect you from JKIA or a confirmed Nairobi hotel between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. Travel 255–300 km through the Great Rift Valley and Narok, with the precise distance depending on the selected Maasai Mara gate and accommodation. The drive takes 5½–7 hours excluding lunch, traffic and photography stops.

Mara’s Golden Afternoon

After lunch and check-in, begin an introductory game drive between 3:30 and 4:00 p.m. Photograph rolling grasslands, acacia trees and any safely encountered elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes or predators. Our guide will select viewing positions without blocking other vehicles or disturbing wildlife. Return around sunset for dinner, equipment charging and your first overnight in premium Maasai Mara accommodation.

Maasai Mara – Full-Day Wildlife Photography

Early Light on the Plains

Breakfast is served around 6:00 a.m. before departure between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. Explore open plains and riverine habitats while the softer light supports wildlife and landscape photography. Possible subjects include lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, hyenas, antelopes and birds, although sightings are never guaranteed.

Patient Afternoon Observation

Enjoy a picnic lunch at an authorized location between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Continue photographing animal behaviour, environmental portraits and wider savannah scenes rather than rushing between sightings. During migration months, the guide may investigate reported herd movements, but crossings remain unpredictable. Return between 5:30 and 6:00 p.m. for dinner, image backup and relaxation.

Possible subjects include white or black rhinos, buffaloes, Rothschild’s giraffes, baboons, antelopes and waterbirds. Flamingo numbers vary according to water levels, food conditions and regional movement.

Naivasha Lakeside Retreat

After breakfast or brunch, check out and travel 75–100 km to Lake Naivasha, requiring 1½–2½ hours depending on the lodge location and traffic. Arrive for lunch and enjoy a relaxed afternoon. A professionally operated boat trip may be arranged for photographing fish eagles, pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers and hippos from a safe distance, subject to weather and water conditions.

Optional Lake Photography

Begin with breakfast around 6:30 a.m. A 60–90-minute boat excursion may operate before departure if it was not completed the previous afternoon. Life jackets are compulsory, and the boat captain determines whether wind and water conditions are safe. Protect cameras from spray and avoid changing lenses unnecessarily while on the water.

Long Journey to Amboseli

Check out and travel 310–360 km through Mai Mahiu, Nairobi’s outskirts and Emali. Driving takes 6–8 hours excluding lunch, traffic and comfort stops. Arrive in Amboseli during the late afternoon and check into your premium lodge or camp. A short game drive is possible only when sufficient daylight and park-entry arrangements remain.

RELATED FAQS ABOUT 8 Days Premium Photographic Safari in Kenya

Is this safari suitable for professional photographers?

Yes. The private vehicle, flexible observation time and varied habitats suit professional and enthusiastic amateur photographers. Specialized vehicle modifications must be requested before booking.

    Which lenses should I carry?

A telephoto lens such as 100–400 mm is useful for wildlife, while a 24–70 mm or similar lens works well for landscapes and lodge photography.

    Are window seats guaranteed?

A private vehicle provides better seating flexibility. The final vehicle capacity should be agreed upon before booking if every photographer requires a dedicated window.

Can batteries be charged at the lodges?

Most premium properties provide charging facilities, although power may operate during scheduled hours. Carry spare batteries, adapters and a power bank.

    Is the Great Migration guaranteed?

No. Migration locations and river crossings depend on rainfall, grass and natural herd movement. No crossing or particular wildlife event can be promised.

    Are drones allowed?

Drone use is restricted and requires authorization from relevant Kenyan authorities and protected-area management. Never travel expecting to fly a drone without confirmed permits.

Does the vehicle provide camera supports?

Beanbags or similar supports may be requested in advance. Photographers should confirm the exact equipment supplied before arrival.

How should cameras be protected from dust?

Bring protective covers, cleaning tools and sealable bags. Avoid changing lenses in dusty conditions whenever possible.

Can we stay longer at a sighting?

Yes, when park rules, safety, road space and the needs of other visitors permit. Our guide will never pressure or surround wildlife for a photograph.

    Can the safari be extended?

Yes. Extra nights in Maasai Mara or Amboseli can provide additional photographic opportunities, subject to accommodation and park availability.
