Your Kenya midrange cultural safari begins with an approximately 320-kilometre journey from Nairobi to Samburu, taking 5½ to 6½ hours. Our guide will explain the geographical and cultural changes between Nairobi, central Kenya and the northern pastoral regions. After lunch and check-in, an afternoon drive lasting 2½ to 3 hours will introduce Samburu’s wildlife and the importance of the Ewaso Nyiro River to animals and surrounding communities.

Day 2: Samburu Wildlife and Cultural Experience

Samburu Wildlife and Cultural Experience

After breakfast, you will spend 7 to 9 hours combining wildlife viewing with an optional Samburu community visit. The day may cover 60 to 110 kilometres. Local hosts may explain traditional manyattas, livestock, beadwork, songs, education and changing modern life. Visitors must request permission before taking photographs. You will also search for elephants, lions, Grevy’s zebras and reticulated giraffes.

Day 3: Samburu to Lake Nakuru

Samburu to Lake Nakuru

Following breakfast, you will travel approximately 275 to 300 kilometres to Lake Nakuru over 5 to 6½ hours. During the journey, our guide will discuss farming, settlement patterns and cultural differences between the northern rangelands and Rift Valley. After lunch and check-in, a 3-hour game drive will introduce rhinos, giraffes, buffaloes and lakeshore birdlife.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara

Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara

After a 2½-to-3-hour morning game drive, you will travel approximately 240 to 260 kilometres to Masai Mara in 5 to 6½ hours. The journey passes through Narok County, allowing discussion of Maasai pastoralism, livestock, land use and tourism. After lodge check-in, a short evening game drive may be included when timing permits.

You will spend approximately 8 to 10 hours combining wildlife viewing with an optional responsible Maasai visit. The day may cover between 70 and 140 kilometres. Community hosts may discuss traditional homes, cattle, beadwork, age-group customs, education and tourism. You will also search for lions, elephants, cheetahs and plains animals.

After breakfast, you will travel approximately 250 kilometres to Lake Naivasha in around 5 to 6 hours. Following breakfast, you will travel approximately 320 kilometres to Amboseli over 6 to 7 hours. The route passes through Nairobi’s outskirts and southern Maasai landscapes. After lodge check-in, you may enjoy a short afternoon drive while learning about wildlife corridors and pastoral land surrounding the park.
