9 Days Premium Kenya Birding and Big Game Discovery

Join a 9-day premium Kenya birding safari through Samburu, Lake Nakuru, Maasai Mara, Lake Naivasha and Amboseli.

Explore Samburu dryland birds, Rift Valley waterbirds, Maasai Mara raptors, Lake Naivasha fish eagles and Amboseli wetlands.

Our 9-Day Premium Kenya Birding & Big Game Discovery combines rewarding birdwatching habitats with classic mammal viewing. Samburu introduces arid-country birds, raptors, hornbills, starlings, bustards and Somali ostriches, while Lake Nakuru adds lakeshore, woodland and escarpment species. The Maasai Mara provides vultures, eagles, cranes, storks, rollers and grassland birds alongside lions, elephants and other large mammals. Lake Naivasha is recognised for fish eagles, pelicans, herons, kingfishers and other water-associated birds, before Amboseli completes the route with wetlands, open-country birds and large elephant herds. A private vehicle allows patient identification, bird photography, checklist discussions and time for important mammal encounters.

RELATED FAQS ABOUT 9 Days Premium Kenya Birding and Big Game Discovery

    1. Is a specialist ornithologist included?

The standard package includes a driver-guide with birding knowledge. A dedicated ornithologist may be requested at an additional cost and subject to availability. A specialist is particularly useful for difficult calls, regional species and detailed identification. Professional fees, accommodation and transport must be included in the final quotation. The request should be submitted early during popular birding seasons.

    2. How many bird species will guests see?

No fixed species number can be guaranteed. Results depend on travel season, rainfall, water levels, habitat access and the pace of the group. A private vehicle allows more patient observation than a standard game-focused safari. Some guests may concentrate on photography, while others prioritise a larger checklist. The guide will record only species identified with reasonable confidence.

    3. Will the safari still include large mammals?

Yes, the route passes through areas supporting elephants, predators, rhinos, giraffes, zebras and other mammals. Important mammal encounters can be enjoyed without abandoning the birding focus. The private vehicle allows the guests and guide to decide how much time to spend at each sighting. Mammal encounters may also reveal interesting relationships with birds. All sightings remain natural.

    4. Should travellers bring their own binoculars?

Personal binoculars are strongly recommended because magnification, weight and viewing comfort vary. Binoculars such as 8×42 or 10×42 may be suitable for many birdwatchers. Guests should also bring cleaning cloths and protection from dust or rain. Rental binoculars may be requested but cannot be assumed to be available. Cameras and field guides should be stored securely during transfers.

    5. Can bird-call playback be used?

Playback should be used sparingly and responsibly, if at all. Repeated calls can disturb territorial, feeding or nesting birds. The guide will consider the species, location and conservation implications before using sound. Guests should not independently play loud recordings without consulting the guide. Natural observation and patient listening remain the preferred methods.
