Book a 9-day premium Kenya photography safari through Samburu, Lake Nakuru, Maasai Mara, Lake Naivasha and Amboseli with private game drives.
Our 9-Day Premium Kenya Wild Horizons Photography Circuit connects five distinctive wildlife destinations in one private photographic journey from Nairobi. Samburu introduces dramatic dryland scenery, the Ewaso Nyiro River and northern species such as Grevy’s zebras, reticulated giraffes and gerenuks. Lake Nakuru adds rhino conservation, Rothschild’s giraffes, woodland habitats and rich lakeshore birdlife, while the Maasai Mara provides open savannahs, predators, elephants and large herbivore groups. Lake Naivasha offers freshwater scenery, fish eagles, pelicans and optional boat or walking activities, before Amboseli completes the safari with large elephant herds, seasonal wetlands and possible Mount Kilimanjaro views when skies are clear. A private vehicle provides additional space for photography equipment and more flexibility for patient, responsible wildlife observation.
Early Departure through Central Kenya
At approximately 5:30 AM, our driver-guide will collect you from your Nairobi hotel, residence or agreed meeting point. Camera bags, long lenses and personal luggage will be arranged securely before travelling north through central Kenya. A breakfast, refreshment and comfort stop will be included during the journey.
Premium Samburu Arrival
You will arrive in the Samburu area around lunchtime, check into your premium lodge or luxury tented camp and enjoy a freshly prepared meal. The afternoon provides time to rest, charge batteries and organise equipment. When arrival time and reserve access permit, a short evening wildlife drive may be completed before dinner.
Sunrise Special Five Search
At around 6:00 AM, you will begin a private morning drive through dry bushland, riverine woodland and open plains. Our guide will search for Grevy’s zebras, reticulated giraffes, gerenuks, Beisa oryx, Somali ostriches, elephants and possible predators. The softer morning light may provide excellent environmental portraits and behaviour photographs.
Ewaso Nyiro River and Evening Light
After breakfast and a midday lodge break, you will return for another game drive at approximately 3:30 PM. The guide will explore river corridors and dryland habitats for elephants, giraffes, birds and predators until around 6:30 PM. You will return for dinner, equipment charging and an overnight stay.
Changing Landscapes of Kenya
After breakfast at approximately 6:30 AM, you will complete check-out and begin the journey toward Lake Nakuru. The route moves from Samburu’s arid northern scenery into the greener central highlands and Great Rift Valley. Lunch, refreshments and comfort stops will be arranged during the transfer.
Premium Rift Valley Evening
You will arrive in the Lake Nakuru area during the afternoon and check into your premium accommodation. The remaining time can be used to rest, review photographs and clean equipment after Samburu’s dusty conditions. Dinner will be served before an early overnight rest.
Morning Rhino and Bird Photography
At approximately 6:00 AM, you will enter Lake Nakuru National Park for an early wildlife drive. Our guide will search for black or white rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, possible predators and lakeshore birds. Flamingo numbers vary naturally according to water and feeding conditions and cannot be guaranteed.
Journey to the Maasai Mara
After breakfast and check-out, you will travel through the Great Rift Valley toward the Maasai Mara. Lunch or refreshments will be arranged along the route before arrival during the late afternoon. You will check into your premium lodge or tented camp, organise equipment and enjoy dinner.
Sunrise Predator Territories
At around 6:00 AM, you will begin a complete photography safari through open grasslands, riverine areas and predator territories. Our guide will search for lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras and wildebeest. Wildlife movement, available light and road access will determine the final route.
Picnic Lunch and Golden Savannah
At approximately 12:30 PM, you will enjoy a packed lunch at an authorised picnic location. The afternoon game drive continues through another wildlife area until around 5:30 PM, providing opportunities for environmental portraits and warm evening landscapes. You will return to your premium accommodation for dinner and rest.
Final Mara Photography
A short early drive may be completed before breakfast when the lodge location and confirmed programme permit. Our guide will revisit productive areas and search for wildlife not photographed during the full-day safari. You will then return for breakfast, complete check-out and secure the photography equipment.
Lakeside Arrival and Birdlife
The journey continues through the Great Rift Valley toward Lake Naivasha, with lunch or refreshments arranged along the route. You will check into a premium lakeside lodge during the afternoon and enjoy informal bird photography around the gardens or shoreline. Fish eagles, pelicans, herons and kingfishers may be observed depending on the property location
Morning Lake Photography
At around 7:00 AM, you may enjoy a confirmed boat safari, guided birdwatching session or Crescent Island nature walk. Possible photographic subjects include fish eagles, pelicans, cormorants, herons, giraffes, zebras and antelopes. Boat activities remain subject to safe weather, wind and water conditions.
Long Transfer to Amboseli
After breakfast and check-out, you will begin the journey toward Amboseli with lunch, refreshments and comfort stops included. Arrival at your premium lodge or luxury camp is expected during the late afternoon or early evening. You will enjoy dinner and prepare equipment for the following morning.
Elephant Families and Mountain Light
At approximately 6:00 AM, you will begin a morning drive across Amboseli’s open plains, acacia woodland and wetland habitats. Our guide will search for elephant families, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, predators and birds. Mount Kilimanjaro may provide a dramatic background when cloud conditions allow, but visibility cannot be guaranteed.
Afternoon Wetlands and Dusty Plains
After breakfast, lunch and a midday rest, you will return for an afternoon safari at around 3:30 PM. The guide may explore wetland edges, elephant routes and open plains for silhouettes, reflections and evening wildlife behaviour. You will return at approximately 6:00 PM for dinner and final equipment organisation.
Final Sunrise Photography
At around 6:00 AM, you will enjoy one final game drive through Amboseli’s productive wildlife areas. The guide will search for elephant families, birds and any subjects not photographed during Day 8. You will return to the lodge at approximately 8:30–9:00 AM for breakfast.
Return to Nairobi
After breakfast and check-out, you will begin the road transfer to Nairobi at around 10:00 AM. A lunch or refreshment stop may be included depending on the final drop-off location and travel conditions. Arrival is expected during the afternoon at your hotel, residence or airport-area accommodation.

1. Why is this route suitable for wildlife photography?
The itinerary connects dry northern landscapes, Rift Valley woodland, lakeshores, open savannahs and seasonal wetlands. These habitats provide very different backgrounds, light conditions and wildlife subjects. A private vehicle gives photographers more room for cameras, lenses and beanbags. It also allows additional time at productive sightings when reserve regulations and animal behaviour permit. Our guide will never disturb wildlife simply to create a photograph.
2. Which camera equipment should guests carry?
A telephoto lens in the 100–400 mm range is useful for mammals and birds, while a wider lens can capture landscapes and large animal groups. Spare batteries, memory cards, cleaning equipment and a power bank are strongly recommended. A beanbag or monopod is often easier to use inside the safari vehicle than a large tripod. Dust and rain protection should be carried for cameras and lenses. Valuable equipment should remain in hand luggage during transfers.
3. Are predators, rhinos and Mount Kilimanjaro guaranteed?
No specific animal sighting or mountain view can be guaranteed. Predators and rhinos move naturally according to food, territory, water and weather conditions. Mount Kilimanjaro may remain hidden by cloud even on an otherwise pleasant day. Our guide will search suitable habitats and use current information responsibly. The journey should be enjoyed as a complete wildlife experience rather than a guaranteed photography checklist.
4. Is the Lake Naivasha boat safari included?
The boat safari is included only when it appears clearly in the confirmed quotation. Weather, wind and water conditions may require the authorised operator to delay, shorten or cancel boating. Guests must wear the supplied life jackets and follow the boat guide’s instructions. A land-based birdwatching activity or guided nature walk may be discussed when boating is unsuitable. Any replacement activity remains subject to time, access and confirmed entrance arrangements.
5. Can this photography itinerary be customised?
Yes, additional nights can be added in Samburu, Maasai Mara or Amboseli for more patient photography. A specialised photographic guide or vehicle modification may also be requested. Travellers carrying large equipment cases should share the quantity and dimensions before booking. The final price depends on season, accommodation category and specialist services. Route changes should be completed before accommodation and park arrangements are
