Leaving Mti Mkubwa, we venture out of the rainforest and step into a savannah landscape adorned with tall grasses, heather, and volcanic rocks. The scenic hike takes us to Shira 1 Camp at an elevation of 11,500 ft. along the way, marvel at the breathtaking views of Kibo, one of Kilimanjaro's iconic peaks. Today's hike spans approximately 8 km/5 miles and takes 5-6 hours. You'll be trekking through the fascinating heath habitat.

The most challenging yet rewarding part of your journey awaits as you embark on the push to the summit, Uhuru Peak, standing tall at 19,341 ft. You'll begin around midnight, ascending in the darkness for several hours, until you witness a magnificent sunrise at Gilman's Point (18,600 ft). From there, you'll continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your accomplishment, you'll make your way back down to Mweka Camp, situated at 10,065 ft, passing through the Arctic habitat.
