The 10-day Northern Circuit Route Kilimanjaro climbing is a thrilling and scenic expedition that takes you on a unique and less-traveled path to the iconic summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. This route offers unparalleled natural beauty and diverse landscapes, providing an unforgettable climbing experience.
Your climb begins at Londorossi Gate, located at an altitude of 2,100 meters. After a registration with the Kilimanjaro National Park authorities, you'll be driven further up the mountain to the trailhead. The first day's climb is relatively short, covering about 5.5km through the lush Rainforest zone to reach Mti Mkubwa Camp at 2,820 meters. Along the way, you might be lucky enough to spot some large wildlife, like elephants and buffaloes. After an exciting day, a delicious dinner awaits you at Mti Mkubwa Camp.
On the second day, you'll transition from the Rainforest to the Low Alpine Zone as you climb for about 8km to Shira Camp 1 at 3,610 meters. The route takes you through the picturesque Shira Plateau, offering stunning scenery throughout the journey.
As you continue across the Shira Plateau from Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2, you'll cover approximately 7km through the Rainforest and Low Alpine Zone. At Shira Camp 2 (3,850 meters), you can take in the breathtaking views of the valley below and the majestic Western Breach of Kilimanjaro above.
Day four is an essential part of your climb as you experience high altitude and then sleep at a lower elevation for acclimatization. You'll climb about 14km from Shira Camp 2 to Moir Camp at 4,200 meters. The route passes through the 'Garden of the Senecios' and offers spectacular vistas of the alpine desert zone.
Ascending from Moir Camp, you'll climb around the northern slopes of Kibo, encountering inclines and declines on your way to Buffalo Camp at 4,020 meters. The approximately 12km climb grants you breathtaking views of the plains north of Kilimanjaro, stretching all the way to the Kenyan-Tanzanian border.
The climb on day six is shorter, covering about 8km from Buffalo Camp to Rongai Third Cave at 3,800 meters. You'll be feeling well acclimatized to the altitude by this point, making for a more enjoyable journey.
The steady incline on day seven takes you up and over the Saddle, nestled between Kibo and Mawenzi Peak. You'll reach School Hut at 4,800 meters and prepare for your summit attempt, which starts early the next morning.
The highlight of your adventure awaits on day eight, where you'll wake up before midnight to begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro at 5,895 meters. The climb is challenging but incredibly rewarding, with breathtaking views of the surrounding glaciers. After capturing unforgettable memories at the summit, you'll descend to Millennium Camp at 3,950 meters to spend your final night on the mountain.
On the last day, you'll climb through the dense montane rainforest from Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate at 1,640 meters. At the gate, you'll sign out with the authorities and receive your official certificate, commemorating your achievement on Kilimanjaro. Following the completion of your climb, you'll have time to relax before your departure from Moshi.
Your adventure concludes with your departure from Tanzania, leaving you with cherished memories and the pride of conquering the Roof of Africa.
