The Northern Circuit is one of the best Kilimanjaro routes for families because it offers more acclimatization time, quieter trails, beautiful landscapes, and a gradual approach to Uhuru Peak. Your family will trek from Londorossi Gate through rainforest, Shira Plateau, Lava Tower, Moir Hut, the remote northern slopes, School Hut Base Camp, and finally to the summit of Africa. Our experienced guides support different walking abilities, manage the family pace, encourage teamwork, and make sure every member feels guided, motivated, and cared for throughout the journey. Altitude: 2,100m to 2,820m
Time: 3–4 hours
Vegetation & Features: Montane rainforest, tall trees, fresh air, birds, possible colobus monkeys

Your family Kilimanjaro climbing adventure begins with a transfer from Moshi to Londorossi Gate for registration, permits, and a full briefing with our mountain team. After meeting our guide, cook, and porters, your family will begin trekking through the beautiful rainforest toward Mti Mkubwa Camp. This first day is gentle and gives everyone time to adjust to the mountain environment without pressure. Our guide will set a comfortable pace, support different walking speeds, and help the family begin the trek with confidence. After breakfast, your family will continue hiking from Mti Mkubwa Camp toward Shira 1 Camp. The trail gradually leaves the rainforest and enters the heath and moorland zone, where the views become wider and the air feels cooler. This day is important because the family begins to gain more altitude, so our guide will encourage a slow “pole pole” pace and regular water breaks. Parents, children, and relatives can support each other along the trail while enjoying the changing landscape. On arrival at Shira 1 Camp, the family will have time to rest, enjoy warm meals, and take in the first big views of Kilimanjaro’s high plateau.

Our guide will continue checking the comfort of each family member and adjusting the rhythm where needed. This day helps the body adapt gradually while keeping the trek enjoyable. This is a key acclimatization day for your family Kilimanjaro trek. After breakfast, you will hike slowly toward Lava Tower, reaching higher altitude during the day before returning to Shira 2 Camp to sleep. This “climb high, sleep low” method helps the family adjust better before moving higher on the mountain. The landscape becomes more dramatic, with rocky paths, volcanic features, and wide alpine views. Our guide will manage the pace carefully, allow enough rest breaks, and monitor how each family member is feeling. This day builds confidence and teamwork, helping the family understand the importance of patience, hydration, and steady movement on Kilimanjaro.

Our guide will help the family maintain a comfortable pace and conserve energy while still enjoying the mountain views. This part of the Northern Circuit is peaceful and scenic, making it a great place for family encouragement, shared photos, and quiet mountain moments. Today your family will ascend from Third Cave Camp to School Hut Base Camp, the final camp before summit night. Although the distance is short, the altitude gain is serious, so our guide will lead slowly and carefully. The landscape becomes rocky, dry, and more dramatic as you move closer to Kilimanjaro’s summit zone. This day is mainly about saving energy, resting well, and preparing mentally for the final climb. After arriving at School Hut, your family will have an early dinner and receive a detailed summit briefing. Our guide will check warm clothing, headlamps, gloves, water, snacks, and the walking plan so everyone understands what to expect during summit night.

Altitude: 4,800m to 5,895m, then down to around 3,950m at Millennium Camp or 3,100m at Mweka Camp
Time: 11–14 hours total
Vegetation & Features: Arctic summit zone, scree slopes, crater rim, glaciers, alpine descent trail

This is the most challenging and rewarding day of your 10 Days Northern Circuit Kilimanjaro family trekking package. Around midnight, your family will begin the summit push from School Hut toward the crater rim and continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The climb is cold, steep, and demanding, so our guide will lead slowly, encourage each family member, and prioritize safety throughout the summit attempt. Family teamwork becomes very important on this day, as everyone supports one another through the hardest section of the trek. After reaching Uhuru Peak and taking summit photos, you will descend carefully to Millennium or Mweka Camp depending on the condition of the group and the guide’s safety decision. Our crew will welcome you at camp for rest after this powerful family achievement.

After breakfast, your family will complete the final descent through the rainforest toward Mweka Gate. The trail is easier than summit day, but it can be muddy or slippery, so our guide will continue helping everyone walk carefully. This final day gives the family time to reflect on the full Kilimanjaro journey, from Londorossi Gate and Shira Plateau to the remote Northern Circuit and Uhuru Peak. At Mweka Gate, you will sign out and receive summit certificates. Our team will congratulate your family before transferring you back to your Moshi hotel for a well-deserved rest.
