Experience one of Africa's most rewarding mountain adventures on this 6 Days Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro Climbing Adventure. Beginning on the peaceful western side of Mount Kilimanjaro, the Lemosho Route offers breathtaking scenery, diverse landscapes, and a quieter trekking experience before joining the main trail higher on the mountain. From lush rainforest and giant heather moorlands to dramatic alpine deserts and the snow-covered summit, every day reveals a new side of Africa's highest peak. Designed for adventurous travelers with good fitness, this itinerary combines spectacular scenery with an exciting summit challenge. Throughout the climb, experienced mountain guides, dedicated porters, and professional cooks ensure your journey is safe, comfortable, and unforgettable. Reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895m) is more than standing on Africa's highest point—it's an achievement that creates lifelong memories and a true sense of accomplishment.
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport, our professional driver will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi, a journey of approximately 45–90 minutes depending on your arrival airport. If the weather is clear, you'll enjoy your first breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro. After checking in, meet your experienced mountain guide for a detailed climb briefing and equipment inspection to ensure everything is ready for the adventure ahead. This is also the perfect time to ask questions, rent any missing gear, relax, and prepare for your unforgettable Kilimanjaro climb. Meals: Dinner (if included).
After breakfast, drive for approximately 3–4 hours from Moshi to Lemosho Gate (2,100 m) for registration before beginning your trek. The trail gently ascends through the lush rainforest, where towering trees, colorful birds, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and rich vegetation create a peaceful atmosphere. This first day offers a gradual introduction to the mountain while allowing your body to begin adjusting to the altitude. After hiking about 6 km, you will arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650 m), where your mountain crew will have your tents prepared. Relax with hot drinks, enjoy a freshly cooked dinner, and spend your first night on Mount Kilimanjaro.
Leaving the rainforest behind, today's trail climbs steadily into the beautiful heath and moorland zone, where giant heather and unique alpine plants dominate the landscape. After several hours, you reach Shira 1 Camp (3,500 m) for a lunch break before continuing across the spectacular Shira Plateau toward Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m). Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of Kibo Peak, Mount Meru, and vast volcanic landscapes. Although this is one of the longest trekking days, the steady pace helps improve acclimatization while rewarding you with some of Kilimanjaro's most breathtaking scenery before arriving at camp for dinner and overnight.
Today is a vital acclimatization day designed to improve your chances of reaching the summit successfully. You gradually ascend across the alpine desert to the impressive Lava Tower (4,630 m), where you'll spend time allowing your body to adapt to the higher altitude before descending to Barranco Camp (3,960 m). This "climb high, sleep low" strategy is one of the most effective ways to reduce the effects of altitude. Along the descent, enjoy dramatic views of glaciers, volcanic formations, and the famous Barranco Valley, where giant senecio plants create one of the mountain's most spectacular landscapes.
Begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, an exciting but non-technical section that offers incredible views once you reach the top. Your experienced guides will assist you throughout the climb before you continue across rocky ridges and descend briefly into Karanga Valley. From there, the trail steadily ascends to Barafu Camp (4,673 m), your final base camp before the summit attempt. After an early dinner, your guide will provide a comprehensive summit briefing, and you'll rest for a few hours before waking around midnight for the final ascent to Africa's highest point.
Your summit adventure begins shortly after midnight as you climb slowly beneath a sky filled with stars toward Stella Point before continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. Reaching the summit at sunrise is an unforgettable moment, offering breathtaking views above the clouds, glaciers, and endless African plains. After celebrating your achievement and taking photographs at the famous summit sign, descend carefully back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and hot meal before continuing through the alpine desert and moorland to Mweka Camp (3,100 m), where you will enjoy your final overnight stay on the mountain.
After breakfast, enjoy your final descent through Kilimanjaro's beautiful rainforest, where birdsong, towering trees, and lush vegetation accompany you on the last section of the trek. After approximately 10 km, you will arrive at Mweka Gate (1,640 m), where you'll complete park formalities and receive your official Mount Kilimanjaro Summit Certificate in recognition of your incredible achievement. Your driver will then transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi (890 m), where a hot shower, comfortable accommodation, and a well-deserved celebration await after successfully conquering the Roof of Africa.
