Our exhilarating journey commences at the Umbwe Gate, where we complete the necessary paperwork and gear up for the trek. Stepping into the lush rainforest, we follow a steep and occasionally muddy path, surrounded by the symphony of nature's sounds. The dense canopy above shelters us as we ascend, and the air is filled with the fragrance of wet earth and vegetation. By the time we reach Umbwe Cave Camp, situated at an elevation of 9,514 ft, we have experienced the magic of the rainforest, an ecosystem teeming with life.
Today's adventure takes us into the enchanting heath zone. As we ascend, the vegetation becomes sparser, revealing rocky outcrops and offering breathtaking vistas of Kibo Peak and the charming town of Moshi from Barranco Valley. The rugged terrain challenges us, but the rewards of witnessing the landscape's transition are immense. Upon reaching Barranco Camp, we're greeted by the stunning views of the surrounding peaks. We take time to explore the area before settling down for dinner and a restful overnight stay.

The day promises steep treks as we venture into the alpine desert, a place where the air is crisp and dry. Our experienced guides carefully monitor our acclimatization during the ascent. Depending on individual needs, we might take an alternative route via Stella Point. An afternoon lunch break at Lava Tower rejuvenates us for the rest of the journey. The Alpine Desert presents us with a stark, otherworldly beauty that serves as a poignant reminder of the mountain's grandeur.

Following a hearty breakfast, we continue our expedition towards the junction that connects with the Mweka Trail, leading us to Barafu Camp. As we complete the Southern Circuit, we're treated to various panoramic views of the mountain's summits, including the impressive Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The rugged, surreal landscape of the Alpine Desert surrounds us, providing a unique and unforgettable experience. An early dinner and preparation for the summit day await us at Barafu Camp.
The ultimate challenge and reward await us on this remarkable day. Setting off around 1 am, we layer up to withstand the cold as we head northwest. Ascending through loose scree, we make our way to Stella Point, situated on the crater rim at an elevation of 18,600 ft. A brief rest here allows us to witness the awe-inspiring sunrise over the vast horizon. Continuing our trek, we finally reach Uhuru Point, the highest peak in Africa, where emotions run high as we celebrate our triumph. The descent via Barafu Camp leads us to Mweka Camp, nestled in the upper forest. As we bid farewell to the arctic habitat, we cherish the memories of an extraordinary journey.

The final leg of our expedition takes us through the serene rainforest. The cool, fresh air and the sight of diverse flora and fauna accompany us on our gentle descent. Arriving at Mweka Gate, we bid farewell to the mountain that has challenged and inspired us. Our vehicles await to transport us back to Moshi or Arusha, where we celebrate our accomplishment with a well-deserved shower and refreshing drinks. A night of comfort and a satisfying dinner at your chosen hotel marks the end of this unforgettable adventure.
