The 7 Days Lemosho Route Kilimanjaro Climbing Adventure is one of the most recommended itineraries for trekkers seeking a balance between adventure, comfort, and a higher summit success rate. Starting on Kilimanjaro's quiet western slopes, this scenic route takes you through ancient rainforest, the spectacular Shira Plateau, alpine deserts, dramatic valleys, and finally to the snow-capped summit of Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). The extra day on the mountain allows for better acclimatization, giving climbers more time to adapt to the altitude while enjoying some of the most breathtaking scenery on Africa's highest mountain. Whether you're an experienced hiker or attempting your first high-altitude trek, this itinerary offers an unforgettable journey supported by professional mountain guides, experienced porters, and dedicated cooks who ensure your safety and comfort every step of the way. From your arrival in Moshi to your summit celebration, every detail is carefully planned to provide an exceptional climbing experience. If you're looking for outstanding scenery, excellent acclimatization, and an incredible chance of reaching the Roof of Africa, the 7 Days Lemosho Route is one of the finest choices available.
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport, our friendly team will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. Depending on your arrival time, you'll have the opportunity to relax before meeting your experienced mountain guide for a detailed pre-climb briefing. During the meeting, your guide will explain the trekking program, perform a complete equipment check, and answer any questions about the climb. This preparation ensures you begin your Kilimanjaro adventure fully equipped and confident. Enjoy a comfortable overnight stay in Moshi as you prepare for the journey to Africa's highest peak.
After breakfast, depart Moshi for a scenic 3 to 4-hour drive to Lemosho Park Gate (2,100 m), where you'll complete park registration before starting your climb. Your trek begins through Kilimanjaro's lush rainforest, home to towering trees, colorful birds, blue monkeys, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. The trail climbs gently, making it an excellent introduction to the mountain while allowing your body to begin acclimatizing naturally. After trekking approximately 6 km, you'll arrive at Big Tree Campsite (Mti Mkubwa Camp – 2,650 m), where your tents will already be prepared by the mountain crew. Relax with hot drinks, enjoy a freshly prepared dinner, and spend your first peaceful night beneath the forest canopy
Leaving the rainforest behind, today's trek enters Kilimanjaro's spectacular heath and moorland zone. The trail climbs steadily to Shira I Camp (3,500 m), where you'll stop for lunch while enjoying magnificent views across the expansive Shira Plateau. After a short break, continue across the plateau toward Shira II Campsite (3,850 m), passing unique alpine vegetation and ancient volcanic formations. On clear days, you'll enjoy outstanding views of Kibo Peak and Mount Meru. This longer trekking day plays an important role in your acclimatization while showcasing some of the mountain's most dramatic landscapes before arriving at camp for dinner and overnight.
Today is one of the most important acclimatization days of your expedition. The trail ascends gradually through the alpine desert to the impressive Lava Tower (4,630 m), a towering volcanic rock formation where you'll stop for lunch and allow your body to adjust to the higher elevation. Afterwards, descend into the beautiful Barranco Valley to Barranco Camp (3,960 m), following the highly effective "climb high, sleep low" acclimatization strategy. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking views of glaciers, volcanic landscapes, and the famous giant senecio plants that make this section of Kilimanjaro one of the most scenic.
After breakfast, tackle the famous Barranco Wall, one of Kilimanjaro's most exciting highlights. Although it appears steep, the climb is non-technical and your experienced guides will assist you throughout. Once at the top, enjoy spectacular panoramic views before continuing across rocky ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp (4,035 m). This shorter trekking day is intentionally designed to improve acclimatization, allowing your body additional time to adjust to the increasing altitude while conserving energy for the summit days ahead. Spend the afternoon resting, hydrating, and enjoying the magnificent mountain scenery.
Today's hike is relatively short but important as you make your way to Barafu Camp (4,673 m), your final base camp before the summit attempt. The trail climbs steadily across rocky alpine terrain with breathtaking views of Mawenzi Peak and the surrounding glaciers. Upon arrival, you'll enjoy an early hot lunch before resting for several hours. Your guides will conduct a detailed summit briefing, check your equipment once more, and advise you to sleep early because your summit climb begins shortly after midnight.
Just after midnight, begin your unforgettable summit attempt under a sky filled with stars. Moving slowly and steadily, you'll climb to Stella Point before making the final push to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. Witnessing the sunrise above the glaciers is an unforgettable reward for your determination and effort. After celebrating your achievement and taking photographs at the summit, descend carefully back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and a hot meal before continuing downhill through the alpine and moorland zones to Mweka Camp (3,100 m), where you'll enjoy your final overnight stay on the mountain.
Following breakfast, begin your final descent through Kilimanjaro's lush rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640 m). The trail passes beneath towering trees alive with birdsong, providing a peaceful conclusion to your mountain adventure. Upon reaching the gate, you'll complete park exit formalities and receive your official Mount Kilimanjaro Summit Certificate, recognizing your successful ascent of Africa's highest mountain. Afterwards, your driver will transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi (approximately 45–60 minutes), where you can enjoy a hot shower, celebrate your remarkable achievement, and reflect on an unforgettable 7-day Lemosho Route adventure.
