The 7 Days Lemosho Route New Moon climb is a special Kilimanjaro trekking adventure planned around the New Moon period, when the nights are darker and the summit climb feels more dramatic. It follows the scenic Lemosho trail through Big Tree Camp, Shira Plateau, Lava Tower, Barranco, Karanga, Barafu, Uhuru Peak, and Mweka Gate.
A New Moon climb is perfect for trekkers who want a quieter and more adventurous night experience. The dark sky can create excellent stargazing opportunities, especially at open camps like Shira 2 and Barafu, while the Lemosho Route offers beautiful scenery and good acclimatization.
Yes, 7 days is a good option for the Lemosho Route because it gives more acclimatization time than a 6-day climb. It is still challenging, but the route includes important altitude adjustment points such as Shira Plateau, Lava Tower, Barranco Camp, and Karanga Camp.
The altitude and distance are the same, but the night is darker because there is little or no moonlight. Climbers need a strong headlamp, extra batteries, warm clothes, and good guide support to enjoy a safe and comfortable summit push.
This package is best for adventure travelers, photographers, private groups, couples, and hikers who want a scenic Kilimanjaro route with a special dark-sky summit experience. It is also good for trekkers who prefer a more unique climb than the normal full moon option.
No technical climbing experience is required, but good fitness is important. You should be prepared for multi-day trekking, long hiking hours, high altitude, cold summit conditions, and the physical challenge of summit night from Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak.
A reliable headlamp with extra batteries is very important because the trail will be darker at night. You should also bring warm layers, waterproof jacket and trousers, hiking boots, gloves, warm hat, sunglasses, trekking poles, sleeping bag, water bottles, and personal medication.
You will pass through several Kilimanjaro vegetation zones, including rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, arctic summit zone, and rainforest again during the descent through Mweka Gate. This makes the Lemosho Route one of the most scenic Kilimanjaro trails.
Yes, beginners can join if they are fit, well-prepared, and ready to follow the guide’s pace. The 7-day itinerary is better than a shorter climb because it gives more time for acclimatization, but summit night is still demanding.
The best time is around the New Moon date during Kilimanjaro’s drier trekking seasons, usually January to early March and June to October. These months often give better mountain views, although weather on Kilimanjaro can change at any time.
